Yes the fact that we have the present government in power says a lot about kiwis in general as a group and shows how such a reaction to Jacinda's wonderful period in power could have taken place, in short, lots of idiots here just like everywhere else who are not even smart enough to keep their mouths shut when they are in the wrong but can't see it themselves.
The people who refused to vaccinate, to keep to themselves and avoid large groups, wear masks, wouldn't follow mandates and generally behaved in the most ridiculous way seemingly unaware how out of step they were with their smarter countrymen and women.

Penalties should be imposed for proven idiocy. I mean where were these people in their own minds when they were at school and growing up. Why don't they realize that perfection is not available in real life and sometimes doing nothing is the worst possible option. Having to choose the lesser of two evils is often the only choice available and whilst vaccination does carry risks not being vaccinated is even worse if one is unlucky and comes into contact with the virus. Also group immunity protects all of us as long as the percentage of vaccinated is high enough.
I really hate needles, I'm really scared every time I see a needle even on tv but I forced myself to go and be vaccinated because I knew it was for the best for me and for the group.
Kiwis are very reactionary unfortunately with no philosophy behind it except they don't like being told what to do and prefer to make up their own minds which is fine except when the threat is clearly defined and a group response which has stood the test of time is necessary for our very survival, putting others at risk by willful neglect or actions which are also clearly understood is not on the cards.

It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche
