Interesting doco on Al Jaz right now about the energy use of AI data centres. Seems an ordinary google search uses x amount of energy, but if you ask AI to do that search it is x times 50.
Which has lots of downstream implications for users and climate change, let alone the widening gap between energy rich countries and the energy poor.
While we cannot go back with our tech development, it is splitting people, particularly the generations. Those of us who avoid the layers of tech required to bank, or communicate, or just access services in favour of one password, or one I D card, one simple phone - we are going to be seriously left behind. While the energy supplies we rely on for the everyday increasingly get sucked up by sophisticated corporates focused on the next big thing...
