I found a stray cat hiding out at my Mum's place some years back with a flea collar that it had managed to get one of its front legs through. It was in a hell of a state with gangrene having set in and ended up being euthanised as a result.
Cats are lithe and agile creatures that enjoy squeezing through tight spaces so a flea or bell collar can become lethal so easily if they get stuck or tangled.
