Surely it would've been up to the adult guests to check with their hostess as to whether their kids would be included in an afternoon nibbles/ afternoon tea fundraiser?
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I never assumed my offspring was an automatic inclusion to such events. Mind you, back then kids were seen but not heard in a very different way to today's expectations. I know watching them at my favourite deli cafe I have to make sure my eyebrows stay firmly on the level. They seem to want to climb along with the volume of some children demanding fluffies and other treats.
