This is a deliberate strategy by Google and has been heralded for at least half a year. Google wants even more money which only comes if fhey can prove to advertisers that the ads they pay for are being seen by the observers on uTube and not being blocked by efficient blockers like uBlock Origin running in Manifest Version 2.
They know when blockers are working and subverting what Google wants you to see so they have made sure that only crippled blockers can be installed on browsers (Chrome and Variants) by limiting the control that addons/extensions have at their core by how they operate within the browser, ie Manifest Version 3.
Google is now EVIL.
OK, I understand. Yes I am so over google, its getting worse if anything, all the search results these days are sponsored links, and then this AI summary you now get can be a bit of a nusiance, yes it does come in useful at times, but it does get some things wrong.
Ever heard about dead internet theory? Im starting to feel this is true.
Now when you are talking about firefox extensions, are you suggesting that firefox extensions are built on the same manifest as chrome? Im no developer, so not too familiar with it all, but I guess it would make it easy for devs to migrate extensions across various browsers?
Im expecting that Brave browser will continue with manifest V2 and I dont see google getting far to change things with firefox, the courts will see it as anti-competitive and they are already facing legal pressure to split up the company.
Google are pushing things as it stands, what really grinds me the most is that Google (and pretty much all social media such as facebook) are happy to take money from scammers to post these ads all over their platforms, and they very rarely do anything about it if you report it to them.
Ive played around with Adblock DNS servers and they are good, but the big drawback is that most pages where the ads would have been are all full of white blank spaces to scroll through, its much more worse on mobile devices im finding.
Whereas the extensions would rearrange the page in most cases and you would never notice where the adverts would be.
