Pick a few, make the install media for them one at a time, boot off it and try it - no need to install Linux will run off the install media.
It's a bit slower and may be missing a driver or app or two but it'll let you try it safely to see what you think.
I like Mint, Ubuntu, and fedora myself.
The XFCE version of Mint is better for older slower hardware, bit more basic and needs less resources.
