In many towns there are oldies' exercise classes initiated by ACC and if you can get to one you should try it out. Our local class is called "Strong and Stable" and costs only $4 per session. I've been attending for a a couple of years following ankle surgery that left me immobile and weakened, and I can really feel the improvement in my strength, balance and physical confidence.
I ripped out a page last night from a magazine I was given, on balance exercises. As you say very important as we age.
