Take money out of governance entirely... South Australia has made political donations illegal, why can't we?

and then maybe place a levy on the alcohol, gambling, tobacco, firearms, pharmaceutical industries to contribute to the funding costs of political parties

That'd work, so probably never happen, more's the pity...

I'd love to see political parties made to raise their funding by say, running cake stalls or similar. The smaller funds would show just how wonderful they are at budgeting. Or not...
