Except coments like that are more about your racism heisenberg, than reality. My bff is raising her grandchild. She is more pakeha than I am and so were his parents. Meth heads, who neglected their baby so badly that fourteen years later he still lives with PTSD. It isn't a race thing, it is drugs, poor housing, stupid choices, ignorant parenting and the poverty that follows all that stuff around. The reality that Maori are more frequently affected by those conditions is a result of our institutionalised racism - something I never understood as a comfortably raised fifties white woman. Until I had a Maori daughter. Boy was that a lesson in real life.

You've been sucked in by a mass delusion among the safe and comfortable classes. It isn't real, as our census stats reveal. Which, btw, is why this government talks of stopping the census. Easier to live their dream without the hard facts intruding...
