It isn't a race thing, it is drugs, poor housing, stupid choices, ignorant parenting and the poverty that follows all that stuff around. The reality that Maori are more frequently affected by those conditions is a result of our institutionalised racism - something I never understood as a comfortably raised fifties white woman.
