Tom Phillips shot dead

I hope the cop pulls through and makes a full recovery, he is lucky to survive a gunshot to the head.
Im guessing the kids are the best chance of getting any information on the whole situation. It could have ended up much worse if Tom was alone with no child to provide directions to his camp, not that it was something the child should have witnessed.
Its a sad situation but I think it was half expected with the direction things were going.
