The way I see it is M$ is trying to move over to a subscription model and push everyone into their ecosystem and get subscribed to 365, onedrive etc.
Windows is very close to becoming a free product and their business model will switch over to subscriptions, especially with AI, copilot, etc.

Very much the reason I'm averse to getting locked into software packages where possible. I own the 1,000+ music albums I have ripped from my CDs rather than using Spotify. I own my website rather than going to a Shopify SaaS model.

I call it Shitify... CD is better quality... or you can buy higher quality from places like Bandcamp and others.
Streaming services are a joke.
