Science solves one of its biggest problems

One of the problems I have always had with black holes is the idea that energy is never lost, merely transformed. Matter is one of those transformational states. So, if matter is absorbed by a black hole and in the process converted to energy which is subsequently released in particle form then if matter/energy stops entering, eventually the black hole would simply fade away...

Which might explain why there are fewer of them than the number of stars might suggest there should be. Black holes being stars that have collapsed. Maybe they do starve to death...
