"Agreed, a ton of labour, greens and TPM voters that we don't need."
Corruption of the highest order from the National Party and agreed to by their ignorant one-eyed followers.
It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche

But interesting Nats still got a vote or two. We're not really talking numbers that will swing an election though so it begs the question why Luxon wants this... https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politic...s-revealed This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.

I think its crystal clear that there will always be some people who are so dangerous to others they will have to be kept locked up.
That does not mean though that every person who committs a crime should also be locked up. It does not mean that most people can't change, sometimes with help, sometimes on their own. Removing the right to vote is just anothet weapon in the bash bash bash response so favoured by, usually right wing politicians. Why the hard right cannot - or perhaps will not, comprehend that bash bash bash does not invariably work is perhaps because most people may not understand that, & also because most people tend to want some sort of revenge. Not invariably the best idea. We could do worse than identify the causes & act accordingly. And one of those causes as we now know thanks to the Dunedin study, is that the human brain isn't fully developed - specifically those areas which govern impulse control & consequences - until our mid twenties. And now that we know that, one of these fine days we may need to change some aspects of our society. Probably an especially thorny prospect, that one...

bash bash bash is usually the cause of the problem in the first place and the reason more than a few are in prison - some parents have a lot to answer for...

My right wing side suggests a licence to procreate could fix that. Of course it would require a minor piece of reversible surgery at puberty. For males...

License to breed not so much; smacks of big brother & besides, that idea in one form or another has been used before to prevent 'unsuitable' people from procreating with tragic results. https://www.pbs.org/independentlens/blog...ed-states/ https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shot...ilizations
