I've read two of those Jan, loved The art of racing in the rain & bought it for a granddaughter's birthday, & have also read We need to talk about Kevin.

We no longer have a local greengrocer. Or butcher. There were both of those & more,including an electrical shop at one time but the mall put paid to them all. There was also years ago, an excellent opshop & secondhand bookshop both sorely missed.

Perhaps Nicola Willis might address the high food prices instead...but I won't hold my breath.

morning ladies Another peasouper this morning, typical Waikato.

We don't have much on the agenda today, still taking it easy. I keep looking at the big pile of weeds that need to be put in the wheelie bin but remind myself this is my healing time and waiting a few days is no biggie. There's plenty of easy indoor stuff to do. Time for a sort out of clothes and other stuff for the op shop.

Do you think the tightness in your chest may be from stress, popeye? And I agree with Jan and OHH, I wouldn't muck around with the landlord/property manager. Wouldn't even tell them about the painter being on the phone for an hour. That's their problem if they hire cowboys. Pay the rent and move out. They are probably peeved as they have to upgrade stuff like heat pumps when you move.

The flies are back, those little house flies, and they are a blimmen nuisance. They land anywhere and everywhere.

This afternoon I'll work on some more hardanger, I've done the outside edge of one side and am now working on the middle.

Good morning from the Bay of Islands.  

Cooler this morning with some fog, gone now that the sun is out. Lol KM, I've seen some house flies up here! It must be too breezy/dry where we live for them. It was good to see the country greening up already after the rain as we drove the Waikato. 
  
It was a long trip yesterday,  typically slow through Auckland. Today we'll explore a bit before heading off closer (for the ashes scattering) to where the family lived on the West Coast tomorrow. 

You'll be glad to be out the other side KM. A SIL was happy to get put on a cancellation waiting list for a Waik Hosp appt ... she  didn't realise that was an option.

I agree to let things lie with the landlord Popeye ... don't poke the bear! Won't be long and you can relax in your new home. 

Time to move. Enjoy the day all.

Morning everyone.

The sun is up here, well out one side. The back is dark grey still.

Yeah I think its the stressed that brought it on. And Normally Im not a stressor by any means.. but the last few years have been hard, and I just have to get through the next couple of weeks.

OMG I packed the "Back" of the pantry late yesterday. Its where I store all the spare Tupperware. I have alot, cos one never knows what sort of cupboards you will have when you move. It doesn't pack down very small either. lol.

Today Ill do the bottom of the pantry, only a little bit, the cupboard under the sink and the corner appliance / big pot cupboard.

And my jewelry boxes need to go in a nice plain box and added to the Take around in the car pile . I normally give them to a friend to look after until I've moved. I might do the same actually. It just means of anything else they are safe. And I dont have to worry about them. I have stuff that is very old but hugely sentimental to me. from my grandmother, Stepgrandmother, Sister etc. Ill send them home with Dianne, she will be the safest place.

Robynn will bring the contract around today. They are not morning people so it will be after lunch for sure lol..

I didn't know it was an option either, roma. The registrar suggested it and ohh boy, it paid off. The person whose slot I took had the flu and they needed someone quickly. If you are prepared to be rushed, then ask if you can be put on that list. It's worth the rush and effort to get there.

Love the Bay of Islands, we went there for our honeymoon. It's a gorgeous part of the country and so full of history.

Many years ago my stepfather took us up to Paihia.. Telling us it was in the "winterless" North.. We were in a motel across the road from the beach. 

Woke up to an absolute white out.. A super heavy frost..

We teased him for many years after that... one of my fondest memories... 

I need to go back oneday cos I havent been any further than Paihia

My plans were thwarted yesterday DD and DGD1 popped in after lunch so no pattern tracing for me but applying different coloured nail polish to each nail both hands a feet, knew I kept my collection for a reason 
The original greedy cat was a hit too.
DH k9 sitting all day and I am off  to friends birthday high tea.this afternoon. 

Currently sipping  my coffee while the coffee machine does its cleaning cycle 

Hope the leek and potato soup did its job OHH and you are on the mend.

Happy Daylight Savings Day, bit cooler out there and my deck was wet as I opened the door. Lots of plants crashed in the storm so I need to clear those into the compost and maybe start to refresh the pot collection for winter vegies, just adding sheep pellets and a top up with fresh mix all stirred up to get some air in. During my awake period last night- still lots of coughing despite extra garlic in that gorgeous pot of soup - I wrote my plant shopping list, and checked out Awapuni's offerings. Might do that again this year, I like the way Ham runs his business.

And yes, those beastly little flies are a pain in the neck. They do not obey instructions, so they must die.

Daylight saving was not welcomed by Madame le Dog & Madame le Cat. I think its fair to say that they strongly disapprove of it.
Madame le Cat had to use her indoor convenience, which is a rare event.

At least its come over all sunny so they're slightly mollified now...

My friends were at the Boston gathering and tell me it was massive. She also says the media are seriously underplaying the numbers, the resistance is growing.

I have a very dear Canadienne friend too, who lives within cooee of the border, and she tells me how stressful it is living with the kind of insidious terror that lurks behind waiting for Trump's next move.

We are so lucky in our geographical isolation.

Lilith anybody who believes Nicola Willis is serious should take a look what happened seven days before her announcement - Duncan Webb objected to a new WW supermarket being fast tracked and guess who ranted and raved about Labour being so shortsighted stopping it being built in a hurry Nicola Willis herself - her hypocrisy is worse than the last lot - she wants to break the duopoly one day but supports fast tracking an additional duopoly owned supermarket .Costco spoke out last week they have run at a loss for two years and arent going ahead with expansion - NZ is the most expensive country they trade in in the world - he said it’s nothing to do with the duopoly - we have the highest fuel tax which makes our transportation costs the highest in the OECD - power costs are high but the cost of supplies to the supermarket are extremely high - one meat processing plant reported 188% increase in profit last year but the supermarkets are blamed for the high cost of meat .Seriously how thick does Nicola think we are they just spent a million dollars trying to get businesses to invest here and now she is going to break up a100 year old kiwi company when all the stats show they are not making excessive profits .The biscuit and Icecream manufacturers are laughing all the way to the bank all their products are smaller but cost more and people don’t complain except to the supermarket staff !

Totally agree Jan. She is one dangerous lady.

morning ladies More rain please!

A busyish day for us today with my sister-in-law coming or lunch. I'm going to help her with a powerpoint she needs for a talk she is giving this week. While I do that, she plans to plant the three roses, but I suspect she will find the ground hard to work with. It used to be a driveway and there is still metal under the clay. It takes a fair bit of slog to plant anything. Thank goodness for compost and sheep pellets.

Yesterday mrK and I went through our draws and tossed out a lot of stuff. I did find a bra I had forgotten about That should keep the girls in line for a while longer lol. Speaking of boobs, my mammogram results came back negative. Always a great result when breast cancer is in my birth family. There is now quite the pile to go to the op shop later this week. No doubt more will be added to it as the week goes on.

The hardanger runner for the second spare room is coming along nicely. No mistakes this time lol. Well, very few and I've managed to catch them before it became a mission to unpick. I'm thinking of doing the middle pattern and maybe the weaving in white while the closters are buttery yellow. Will have a think and maybe a tutu before I go down that path.

Before my sister-in-law arrives, I'll top the wheelie bin up with non-compostable weeds and then ask if she can help me put it out for tomorrow later on today. And I had better put the Furry One's soft toys away as her dogs will shred them. The Furry One may be small(ish) is stature and he does put the two big dogs in their place. Manners please! But they have been known to sneak his soft toys and destroy them.

Morning everyone

Another mixed bag of weather.. If it could just stay fine while Im out Id be happy.

Off to the Drs this morning and I swear if he asks what Im there for Ill scream lol.. He wanted the appointment to talk about pain relief lol.. But I will tell him my heart certainly wasn't happy on Friday and get some more nitrolingual.

Then home and Ill ring the movers and see if they have a free day before Easter.. Might as well get in early if I can lol..

The Pantry is now in camping mode... but Ohh I have no idea where my head has been.

I found a Toaster, tucked away in the back.. Brand new with the docket ( It had been delivered) tucked into the box. In October last year... I have no recollection of buying it, or putting it in the pantry... If I had have Id be using it cos the pathetic one Im using now is hopeless lol..

Its the same with a box of shoes, all new some with the dockets inside, that are all size 9... I take a 10... I do remember get a couple of them, but why I got size 9 Im blowed if I know why.

Don't know if any of you watch "This time Next Year" which is on Eden on a Friday night, then repeated on Saturday. People pledge to change their lives in a year. there was a man on this week who pledged to lose 10 stone. he was a foster father and wanted to be more healthier for the kids he looks after. He lost 8 stone.. I saw the change... Now I realise how much I have lost.

Talking to a lady I've known , also from TM ( Thistle) who said her daughter has lost 6 stone and is also having trouble getting her head to catch up.

Body image is a complex thing. And sometimes we operate on the basis of the one in our heads, not the real thing. Relearning to walk taught me that, losing perception in one foot meant I had to really think through a movement that used to be automatic, or fall over. Interesting process, if frustrating.

I get a similar feeling looking in mirrors, lol, and at such times am grateful to be a bit blind. A fuzzy image is so much kinder!

It certainly is Hunni.. 

Oddly in my en suite the toilet is opposite the mirror. I just dont look, unless I pick missy up while Im sitting there lol.. Never have been one to look in mirrors really. 

Thats why I got a shock when at the hairdressers , and I got her to take a before photo before she cut my hair. I knew it was long but hadn't realised how long.

And its nearly back to that length again already.. I may not have much but what is there grows length well lol

It's the same when in hospital and you have doctors and nurses poking and prodding. One of the nurses was saying she used to work in maternity and first time mums often had a hard time exposing their bodies during pregnancy and birth. I remember that well. Now, it's do-your-thing and I'll pick my dignity up at the door on the way out!

I've filled the wheelie bin AND put it at the roadside for tomorrow. AND without any heart flutters This time last week I was gasping and had to make two stops to get it out for the bin man. Go me! lol

My Auntie Maureen went through several bouts with cancer, starting in her teens, before leukemia finally got her at 72. Most of her trials though were with her reproductive system, and as a very young unmarried woman in the fifties all that went with that must have been incredibly difficult, until as she told me once, she learned 'you leave your dignity with your knickers darling, and put them both back on when its over'.

Valuable advice. She was a stunning woman who married an old fashioned man who never deserved her sadly, but lots of women meet that fate. I learnt a lot from her, especially about courage and personal strength.

It's women like your aunt who paved the way for us and the next generations and we should be very grateful to them.

I'm on a roll! Windowsills cleaned (damed flies), the visible skirting boards done (will do the rest tomorrow) and have vacuumed the dead bodies up. If I can't get into the garden, then I might as well catch up on the house stuff. Six months of a lick and a promise doesn't cut it.

Sister-in-law texted and is on her way. Will have a cuppa when she gets here.
