(Yesterday, 06:04 PM)Oh_hunnihunni Wrote: I buy a kilo of low fat or skimmed milk for around $12 . It lasts me a month. I have a couple of glass milk bottles with plastic lids and I make up one of those every couple of days, so about 850 mls? Maybe? Five tablespoons of powder to a bottle of water, lid on, shake, and into the fridge. So maybe 35 grams of powder, is that about right? Let's say 40... So, 30 odd days ÷ 2 x 40 grams plus the odd extra bottles on days when I bake or make porridge (I go all milk, no water) or sauces... Yup, that's about right, a kilo a month. And I don't have to lug all that water home from the shop, and I can use non chlorinated water if I have prepped some., which is why I started doing it when I came back to the city after years in Blenheim. Auckland water tastes awful after their tap supplied pristine glacier melt champagne..
And I cannot tell the difference between bottled milk and mine.
It's not a very 'green' choice, considering the processing and energy costs to produce the stuff, but it certainly beats buying whole milk on budget...
Yeah we have Auckland water out here too. And it still goes through me even after 21 years being back here.
Ohh to have bore water, it would be lovely.
I use milk powder when baking and in my creamed rice. After soo many times of forgetting to keep a record I finally started a new bag of powder and am keeping track. I used long-life in the pudding today and will use it till I've finished that box.
Also trying to figure out how long one of the 3 kilos of peaches lasts too. They were such a good buy at $5-99. I still have one bowl full in the freezer. I have 4 tins in the pantry.
So once the steamed pudding is gone Ill be back into the rice and peaches. They just go so nicely together. Even if it looks like Im committing murder opening the cans cos the electric can opener wont work on that size tin. So I use one of those Jam that sucker in and rip the tin open type can openers... Safely with a teatowel wrapped around it lol.
I only opened a box of milk the other day cos my friend had a milo while here. Finished it on my breakfast since I hadnt made rice.
I simply wont pay $4-50 for 2 liters / litres.
They told me I couldn't, so I did.!!

morning ladies I think the sun has forgotten about us...
We use two liters of light blue milk a fortnight, not big milk drinkers/users here. Occasionally we will have sauce or custard, or I need milk for baking, but as a rule of thumb, one two-liter bottle does us. I do keep a spare in the freezer if we are caught short. And the bottles are then refilled with worm wee from the worm farm for the garden or to give away.
Nothing much planned for the day. It's very difficult for MrK to get out and about, especially with this wet weather. Eighteen more sleeps before his orthopedic appointment. Fingers crossed he lasts that long. And I worry when I go out on my own. I didn't move any sand the other day so might give it a whirl today if the weather stays calm. Only about a wheelbarrow full left to go so not much to do. Next time someone offers to take stuff I will over-ride MrK's wishes and tell them to take it. Slowly getting the area tidied for the pots.
Need to go and help MrK

Good morning.
It's cloudy with the sun hiding and wind blowing the trees. I might be being too optimistic thinking the winter sheets can go on the line without showers
How things have deteriorated with the wait times for anything to do with the health system. Nearly 3 weeks for a mammogram result so far ... have been told at least a 4 week wait. I hope M K's wait time goes quickly KM.
I have powdered milk in the fridge for baking plus fresh for daily use. Gone is the need to freeze milk. Mr R doesn't mind powdered milk in hot drinks if needed ... I think my cuppa is ruined!
Have pulled out some embroidery samplers to keep fingers busy. The final of The Great British Sewing Bee was good viewing with a deserved win.
Had better go and get something done.
Enjoy the day all.

It does come down to our taste buds, thank goodness we are all different. It keeps life interesting.
I have finished the knitted scarf so think I will start playing with the pink jacket, adding a bit of slow stitching madness to it. The sleeves are too long so I shall lop a bit off one and start there with luck it will be wearable again by Spring...

yes, roma, it was a well deserved win. I loved Luke's final outfit, it was stunning. And the pleats and buttons on the jacket was an inspired idea. His reaction to the win was just priceless
Four weeks for a mammogram result is a long wait. I am assuming if you say you have a lump, the results will be quicker. I hope so.
We now have a 'system' in place should MrK fall and feel he can pull himself up. We even had a practice run If the worst comes to the worst, it will be another ambulance visit.

Morning everyone
Slow start cos I was up very late watching ghostie stories..
Absolutely wrapped that Luke won the Sewing bee.. he deserved it. I too loved the final vest Dress. I think the girls tried too hard.. Esmae was soo pleased Luke won too.
The washing is on, it will go straight into the dryer. Its calm out so I doubt anything will dry out there. Ill enjoy the warmth it might create too.
A lady from across the road has come for some Lemons. Told her to take grapefruit too if she wanted but she doesn't like them. Robynn is going to tell Terry to help himself if he wants any too. Im satisfied with sniffing the 3 I have in the fruit bowl...
Wow I had my Mammogram results in less than a week... The waits are shocking these days.. Dianne is a case in the wait.. They need a full body scan to determine what chemo and if she needs more surgery, but they turned her down for the scan... And now her kidney stones are back but they are going to blast them. Hopefully quickly cos she has enough pain on her plate at the mo.
Games and painting today. Ill also laminate mums picture and make a sign for the front door and laminate that too.
Glad you have plans in place Kiwimade. MrP got grumpier and more stubborn with his ailing body, grumps I could have happily gone without. Sounds like MrK is at least working with you and for the betterment of his safety too.
Have a good day everyone

If there are Oscars in the world of cats, then Madame le Cat would win it, paws down.
This morning's get-the-human-up performance really was extraordinary. It began with a series of loudish meows, with longish gaps in between, gradually getting quieter & quieter with shorter gaps as the anguish grew.
And then the final heartbroken meow, barely audible yet expressing all the pain of having a mean, evil, neglectful human.
And the Oscar goes to..Madame le Cat!
It did work,though..blardy cat.
in order to be old & wise, you must first be young & stupid. (I'm still working on that.)

Our felines have us trained well
I am so overvour current vacuum so I have spent the morning looking at Dyson models. Luck would have it Dyson NZ has $550 offf sale ends on Tuesday so will go and look NL tomorrow to see how it feels and listen to sales speel.
Might still buy direct from Dyson free shipping and they might give us a deal on spare filter worth asking they can only say no.
Got to whip the cream for the brandy snaps. Then back to sitting in the sun that has finally shining days always better with a bit of sun
It's fun to have fun but you have to know how

Better after sales service going direct with Dyson Mica. DS was 6 months past 2 year warranty but they recently sent him a new battery. I got mine direct also ... still prefer the Miele for carpet (deep) vacuuming though. Dyson SO good for easy use.

A neighbour has a Dyson, because she couldn't be bothered with a corded model. It last two and a bit years and the battery died. So she went to Harvey Norman for an explanation, got the bums rush, and went off to Dyson itself where she was greeted with open arms. She ended up handing over her vac, buying a new one, at a 10% discount, proudly bringing it home, convinced she had a great deal.
The punchline being she has fully subsidised home help so rarely if ever uses her vac, and lives in the same sized tiny flat that I do, albeit one with a lot less floor space (she is a 'collector', lol). A cheap one from a Briscoe's sale would really be so much more sensible. But hey, we love our vacs. My big black fancy German made black corded one is a pleasure to use. And it replaced the cheap little red Kambrook one from Briscoe's - which I passed on to a friend who continues to use it happily four years later.
And thinking back, my grandmother and my Mum always swore by Electroluxes...
A woman and her vac. It is a wonderful thing...

My grandmother had one of those grey and maroon cylinder-like electroluxes and mum had the flash orange one. My stick vacuum is an electrolux. My only 'issue' is I can't get along the skirting boards like I could with my old Tellus. Dam I miss that vacuum. And it doesn't vacuum the kitchen vinyl as well as the Tellus. I miss the hose and being able to reach spider webs on the ceiling scotia boards. My next vacuum will be another Tellus if I can find one. But it is maneuverable, easy to empty and clean the filter.

I had a cousin, who had an interesting penchant for 'luxies'. Brett was four when he first started focusing on these things and as a family we soon learned if he was visiting it was important to hide the vac. Because he would take it to pieces, given a few minutes peace and no one watching. He could always put it back together again, but no adult would trust him to keep that up.
He became an excellent automotive engineer. Some things are just meant to be.

I Hate Tellus Vacuums.. the hot air blowing up at you. My stepfather had one when we got him lol.
I have a red cheapie I got from Godfreys when they first arrived.. I do have a $19 black stick vac from Kmart which is great for smaller patches. It comes apart as a hand held but I dont remember how to do it lol.
MrP loved his Kirby, so did Bob the cat he would ride on it.
My fave would have been the Bagless Russell Hobbs one we got from Briscoes when MrP stopped vacuuming and I sold it.
I will say I prefer vacuuming wooden floors to carpet, the rugs are easy enough to do, which I was worried about on the longer one in the lounge.
Missy spotted the dryer going and sat and Watched it for ages lol.
Enjoyed a few hours painting..
Then went and cleaned the top of the stove. Wont be long and the landlord is going to need to replace the rings that hold the elements up. But they will hold for now.
I knew the whiteboard would help me, its working well.

Apparently when my father was young he was a "tester" on toys. Before they were sold. If they survived him they were ok to sell.
His job when he died, Putting motors in cars lol

I cleaned the fridge. And instead of the pink jacket I took the scissors to a heavy weight Hine sweatershirt that I fell for because it was lilac. Chunks off the arms, and the hood has gone. It is now extremely comfortable, I may never take it off...
