The awful reality is that there are more human slaves alive and being exploited right now, today, than the sum total of slaves in our history.

When we understand that fact and what it means for those people, it is a shaming thing for every one of us to come to terms with.

There was a story on Sunday the other week about the slave industry right here in NZ, quite disgraceful we are seeing it here, easy to forget we are not immune either.

My question would be how on earth did they even slip through the cracks coming into NZ? Either immigration/customs is doing a bad job, or else they are coming here on private vessels.

Past time we moved to fix that situation, surely.
