What's with the heavily emotive descriptors used by news people these days?

"crashed into Florida", " it roared ashore", " Those of you who were punched during Hurricane Helene, this is going to be a knockout.", "plowing across the state"...

Is it because people are so desensitised to news events that the narrative needs to be dressed up to gain their attention? 'Boy who cried wolf'?

Could be, or laziness on the part of the press.

They seems to sometimes use labels for  everything - 'proud community' gets used frequently...surely, there must be some ashamed communities somewhere out there.

Possibly the ones which contain politicians... Rolleyes Big Grin

The Hurricane is spawning scores of tornadoes to the east of the eye.
It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche

That's a hell of a mess, it'll probably take years to clean up & fix everything.

They've only got until next year then it will probably repeat all over again.

Maybe not that long. Hurricane season runs until the end of November and the Gulf of Mexico is experiencing record sea surface temperatures so plenty of energy potential.

Good grief! Their education system is sorely lacking, they're clearly as thick as two short planks & worse, they don't even understand just how very, very stupidly gullible they are.

I'm starting to think that perhaps people spreading this dangerous bollocks should be held responsible for their comments; & anything which results from it. The damage they could cause is alarming. Dodgy

IF the govt genuinely could control the weather then it would be far more likely to prevent cyclones, hurricans, flooding etc. etc. if only because of the cost.

But these people appear to be unable to comprehend that.

More an indication of how much the US population is susceptible to paranoia.

Probably..although looking back at history, there were also a lot of people who were sure that the Jews were to blame for everything, maybe its a human thing.
