The Facts about family violence and homelessness under Labour
#1
National are receiving criticism regarding their adjustments to labours 25 year plan to reduce family violence and homelessness
Stats from the census
2023 People living in severely deprived housing was up 2.1% so that’s an extra 13,000 people despite Labour spending billions on emergency housing and claiming
June 2023 Police statistics show family violence reports were up 49% since 2017 - that’s despite Labour’s claim their 1.9 billion 25 year plan they introduced in 2020 was providing wrap around services to our most vulnerable families
And let’s not forget these two who in the last two months were victims of that 25 year plan to return at risk children to their whanau

If any politician ignores the real stats of these kids or the official stats and don’t back Karen Schwab but instead uses our most vulnerable as a political football would be unbelievable- the plan has flaws and they need to be fixed before more kids get taken out of very happy foster homes and returned to violent families and killed

I think there is often a huge gap between politician and their public servants. The closer you get to grassroots the bigger that gap.

Especially in social services.

How we overcome that disconnect I don't know, but until it happens none of our major social issues will receive adequate attention. Let alone the existential ones like climate change...

2nd time you've posted these, can you explain how these are examples of "victims of that 25 year plan to return at risk children to their whanau"

One of them reads like a home invasion, the other suggests it wasn't family - do you know something about the cases not in the public arena?
This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.

Extra 13000 people - so many factors result in increased stats in the census. Populations increase, people move, lose jobs, families break up, have babies - life happens.

No government is perfect, but I have to side with the lot who put people and their well being over the economy. Especially when that comes with a healthy dose of lobbyists, industry interests, religious bigotry, and racism.

I just checked - the population increased by 6.3 %. So to have only an 2.1% increase in deprivation is probably actually a good thing. Something working perhaps?

Politicians need to be made more aware of the consequences of their actions, to remain far more in touch with the reality for most people & to take longer term view. And if that means that various political parties need to work together for the good of the people they allegedly represent, then that is all to the good.

Since that is after all, their job

Perhaps we could actually do the logical thing & start at the beginning. Help parents to parent well, make sure no one in this country struggles to feed their family.

Teach kids empathy right through their school years

Teach high school kids basic budgeting, gardening, cooking & parenting. Help those whith ADHD, & their families. Build good quality houses, & end homelessness.

It wasn't always like this; it does not have to be like this.
in order to be old & wise, you must first be young & stupid. (I'm still working on that.)
