Ublock Origin doesn't work with YouTube ??
Any others to block the annoying adds?
From Reddit:
NB you must be using Firefox for this to work, Chrome is now being used by Google to force people to buy Premium uTube to avoid adverts. "Someone else already commented a link to someone who tells u how to fix it but I didnt think it was very easy to understand so I'll explain it in an easy way. Click on the jigsaw icon at the top of ur browser to show extensions Click on UBlock Origin Once the small window thing pops up, click on the settings icon Go to filter lists Look for a thing called "Built-in" then under that should be "Ublock Filters" Under that, look for "UBlock Filters - Quick Fixes" Uncheck the box on the left of it It should be fixed now" Always give it an hour or two so that staff on Firefox and uBlock Origin can come up with a fix. Here's the Reddit thread if you want to know the full story. https://old.reddit.com/r/youtube/comment...d_working/

Works fine in firefox for me, has been giving tons of trouble in chrome for some time now, if google make things worse, I will just switch to an adblock DNS on my router instead.
Here's a picture of the fix, don't forget you need to press "Apply changes"

Done that and applied changes.
Do I need to turn it back ON or just it leave it 'Uncheck'?

I haven't had the problem so not sure but I believe that you leave it off, when uBlock is updated they will switch it on again after correcting the problem within one of the filters, in the next few days or even hours.

Just noticed today that chrome has finally dropped support for unlock origin in the chrome store.
Going to be getting a ton of calls about this.

Think you can still get uBlock Origin Lite.

Yeah I'm not sure what differences there are with the lite version, but I'm assuming it must permit some level of advertising?
I switched from ad block plus to ublock origin because their policy was to allow what they deemed "acceptable" advertising. All I know is the internet is becoming more and more unusable without some form of ad blocker. I hope it backfires somewhat and we see a bit more of a shift to Firefox or brave, etc.
Lite is Manifest V3 rather than Manifest V2 which means ads.
Manifest V3 is a later version which is not as strict in how the browser controls ads. Google has deliberately made it that way on Chrome to force people to watch ads. Manifest V2 no longer available within the Chrome browser. Even though Firefox is financed by Google for some reason the are still allowing Manifest v2 on Firefox, not clear why, but possibly to avoid monopoly accusations which are being made. (What is the difference between MV2 and MV3 Chrome? MV3 extensions based on service workers. Service workers is event based java scripts that run in the background and do not have access to standard website and API. MV2 allowed extensions to read and modify all the data communicated the website you visit, they uses chrome. webRequest API to do this.) Google Chrome Manifest V2 support has officially ended — adios uBlock Origin https://www.techradar.com/pro/google-chr...ock-origin

No it's the opposite, because it is not strict, ads that appear are not controlled by uBlock Origin because it no longer operates on Manifest V2 and only uBlock Origin Lite is available which is not able to be strict in V3 and allows ads to get through to you the observer. (This is using Chrome and Variants)
This is a deliberate strategy by Google and has been heralded for at least half a year. Google wants even more money which only comes if fhey can prove to advertisers that the ads they pay for are being seen by the observers on uTube and not being blocked by efficient blockers like uBlock Origin running in Manifest Version 2. They know when blockers are working and subverting what Google wants you to see so they have made sure that only crippled blockers can be installed on browsers (Chrome and Variants) by limiting the control that addons/extensions have at their core by how they operate within the browser, ie Manifest Version 3. Google is now EVIL.

(This is using Chrome and Variants) OK, I understand. Yes I am so over google, its getting worse if anything, all the search results these days are sponsored links, and then this AI summary you now get can be a bit of a nusiance, yes it does come in useful at times, but it does get some things wrong. Ever heard about dead internet theory? Im starting to feel this is true. Now when you are talking about firefox extensions, are you suggesting that firefox extensions are built on the same manifest as chrome? Im no developer, so not too familiar with it all, but I guess it would make it easy for devs to migrate extensions across various browsers? Im expecting that Brave browser will continue with manifest V2 and I dont see google getting far to change things with firefox, the courts will see it as anti-competitive and they are already facing legal pressure to split up the company. Google are pushing things as it stands, what really grinds me the most is that Google (and pretty much all social media such as facebook) are happy to take money from scammers to post these ads all over their platforms, and they very rarely do anything about it if you report it to them. Ive played around with Adblock DNS servers and they are good, but the big drawback is that most pages where the ads would have been are all full of white blank spaces to scroll through, its much more worse on mobile devices im finding. Whereas the extensions would rearrange the page in most cases and you would never notice where the adverts would be.

As I see it both Manifest V2 and V3 are platforms within the browsers that allow designers to make addons for any browser and have them work without many changes in any other browser, that was the whole point, but V3 is a downgraded setting in the browsers compared to V2 which makes the addons have more or less control over the ads outcome as the user experiences their performance.
That is V3 is a made into feeble version compared to what V2 used to be like. Only Firefox can now be used with V2 addons.

Ok, thats not good, I thought Brave would have kept V2 given their philosophy. Ive always used firefox since day one, so is more of an incentive for me to keep using it. I see that their suggestions is to switch to any browser supporting V2 at this stage. https://ublockorigin.com/
V3 is a more locked down version, presumably for 'security' purposes, with less access to functionality and resources by extensions. Which basically means extensions won't be able to interfere in the page loads as much as they need/used to...
Chrome is still running V2 extensions for me here but as soon as that stops I will probably switch to FF - some of my favourite extensions are V2 and haven't been updated in a while... This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.

I guess your browser has not updated yet, ive just checked the build of chrome ive got here and ublock origin is still working and it says its up to date and the version is 131.0.6778.205. Now it was a new install of chrome I did when I noticed ublock didnt work, Im assuming that google is not rolling the updates out for everybody at the same time? I never thought of checking the build number.

Probably if you stick to an old version of Chrome before the change you will still be able to use the old best version of uBlock Origin.
Not sure whether Bravo is derived from Chrome or not. I just got this from uBlockOrigin " Understanding Manifest V3 and the Future of uBlock Origin Published: 26 September 2024 With the advent of Manifest V3 (MV3), many users are concerned about the future of ad blockers like uBlock Origin. Manifest V3 is a significant update to the Chrome extension platform, introducing changes that impact how extensions interact with web content. Here's what you need to know about MV3, how it affects uBlock Origin, and what alternatives are available. What is Manifest V3? Manifest V3 is the latest version of the Chrome Extensions platform manifest. It introduces several changes intended to enhance security, privacy, and performance. One of the most significant changes is the modification of the webRequest API, which many content blockers use to intercept and modify network requests. How Does MV3 Affect uBlock Origin? uBlock Origin relies heavily on the webRequest API to block unwanted content before it loads. Under MV3, the webRequest API is limited, and extensions are encouraged to use the new declarativeNetRequest API instead. This new API allows for predefined rules but lacks some of the dynamic capabilities that uBlock Origin utilizes for advanced content blocking. Alternatives and Solutions Continue Using uBlock Origin on Firefox Use uBlock Origin Lite Switch to Browsers Committed to MV2 Support Explore Other Content Blocking Methods Conclusion While Manifest V3 introduces challenges for content blockers like uBlock Origin, there are viable options for users to maintain an ad-free browsing experience. Stay informed about these changes and adjust accordingly to ensure continued protection of your privacy and enhanced browsing experience."

Hi all, Christmas greetings to all. In relation to this thread, I use both forms of uBlock Origin; I hate them micees to pieces. For YouTube, I use the DuckDuck Go browser in conjunction with Duck Player, which seems to stop any ads coming my way.
In FF , I had to disable ublock just for Youtube a few months back , as it started causing quite a few issues with YT.
I wouldnt mind the ads, but putting a 20sec ad on a 2 minute YT vid ....... Just a single ad in the beginning I could live with, but some YT vids have too many ads scattered through the vid . I'll try the duckduck GO browser . I didnt know there was one :-) Happy new year In FF , I had to disable ublock just for Youtube a few months back , as it started causes quite a few issues with YT.
