morning ladies We have rain... and wind, lottsss of wind!
Buggar about the Covid, OHH. Thank goodness you are vaccinated, it makes it easier in the long run. It's still a nasty bug though. And there are people who think Covid has gone. I don't think it will ever be 'gone'.
Ohhh Jan, that's awful, what a nasty person. And sadly, there isn't much you can do about it.
The ablation was done without any issues. The person whose turn I took had the flu and I know I shouldn't be happy about that but omg I am lol. The staff were wonderful, cheerful and knowledgeable and explained everything as we went along. I now have a brand spanking new file at Waikato, the last surgery I had was for a ligament reconstruction in my ankle during 2020. The nurse giving the sedative asked how much would I like so I told her, knock me out please lol. I could feel the blood pressure cuff going on and off (ouch!) and the tightness in my chest as my heart reacted to the procedure. But it wasn't painful and all over in an hour and a half. I slept pretty much through all of it. The doctor/surgeon was happy so I'm happy. There are still a few flutters but according to the literature they sent me home with, it will be a month before it all settles down. BUT my heart beat going from 56 (slow thanks to the meds) to 146 within seconds was a tad worrying there for a bit. A week of light duties and a follow up at some stage and I should be fine. The only sore bit is my groin where they went in. Ohhhhh and the echo was amazing lol. I saw my heart beating and the chambers, so very cool.
My sister-in-law by chance lol wanted to visit Wairere Nursery on the way home from the hospital so we picked up the three roses they had waiting for me. And I spied another Austin, omg Litchfield Angel is gorgeous. So here I was wandering around a garden center in the rain only hours after a heart procedure lol. My sister-in-law is going to plant them for me, and I'll make a slideshow of her travel pics for a talk she is giving at her garden group.
Over the next few wet days, I plan to sort through more stuff for the op shop. I've already started a pile. MrK wants to go through his clothes as well.
Time to move, happy crafting

Good morning.
Wet and windy. I hope the areas that need rain are getting it.
Scumbag Jan, I wonder what her plan is ... hard to think that a fellow knitter would be so underhanded
Great that all went well KM, perfect timing with the wet weather to keep you indoors!
Coughing is bad enough ... during the night worse. I know this well and feel for you OHH. I'm known to have a eucalyptus infused man's hanky over my face and vix on my chest as I try to sleep!
I won't be outside the house today ... too wild out there. Will get some things packed for our time away and tidy the house.
Stay warm and dry all.

I am so glad to hear it all went well km, and personally no better place to celebrate a new lease on gardening life than going to one of our favourite places, rain or not!
I have developed this craving for leek and potato soup. My recently widowed cousin in Oz mentioned making some of her favourite comfort food this week and ever since my taste buds have been begging for a bowl. Or two. So I have done a little click'n collect order from the local New World and shall pray the weather forecast for a sunny tomorrow is accurate. Click'n collect means I can avoid people and if I mask up as well that should be warning enough. Optimist that I am.
After days of cereal and sandwiches a soup binge really appeals. And I've put some of my old Vicks cough stuff in there as well, I am going to war on this thing from tomorrow.
Boy it was a stormy night though, still gray and sodden out there and all my ill fitting windows are rattling, but strangely enough I am quite enjoying it. The grounds need it, my bulb pots will be revelling in the ozone rich water, and the muted colours of the world out there really suit my mood.

Good morning everyone
Still raining YAYAYAY.. Hasn't stopped since oh Mid morning yesterday I think.
I was blown away when you get to see the blood etc going through your heart.. And I always thank goodness there are clever people designing these tools that help keep us going much longer.. I dare say 50-60 years ago at our age we would be on our last, if we had the same health problems back then.
The Painter is coming to do a quote for the landlords to repaint the house. Its a big house so wont be cheap thats for sure. Might be cheeky and ask if he has any part cans of white paint.
The stuff we used yesterday was Really thick, we watered it down a little. Man it stinks, but its a long time since Ive smelt paint, but even Di thought it was.. Mind you there wasn't any wind to blow anything away.
I love it when we spend time together, its good for both of us. Oddly something else we have in common is being the ones who took care of our parents, and basically ripped off, me from my mother and Di from her siblings... And never a simple thanks for taking care of them either. Even Di's Aunt thinks she should have Mums engagement ring.. dis siblings went through Mums stuff, when they lived at Dis, while she and her hubby were at work. All Sold.. It upsets Di and I dont blame her.. Theres only two things she would love to have, that were actually meant to be for her but her sister has them.
Need to pop up and get a few groceries, but Im not out of drink so Ill wait till the painter is gone. It will be a wet job no matter what time I go.
Im going to try and sort the mess in the last spare room, and Pack the under the sink cupboard.
Have a Fab day all
They told me I couldn't, so I did.!!

MrK said exactly the same thing, roma lol. At least it's raining and you won't be tempted to be planting the roses. He forgets I have been known to garden in the rain lol. The rain is very welcome, hopefully it will soak deep into the ground, not like those few drops we had weeks ago.

Glad it all went well KM & you're feeling well enough to look at plants - that's probably a good sign.
Finally the sun came out earlier so changed sheets & did a bit of washing, then to the library to picl up a couple of holds. One is Patricia Grace, A writer's life which looks interesting; I really enjoy her books.
At the moment I'm re reading Six of one, Rita Mae Brown after what must be at least 20 years, & finding it just as funny.

I have only ever tried to read a book for a second time. Once.
It was The Women's Room by Marylin French. I think if I had read it before I got married, I probably wouldn't have got married. When I tried reading it the second time I simply couldn't get into it. Which is weird, cos I had loved it.
Two books I would love to re-read but haven't done so yet are by Evan Green. Called Adam's Empire and Kalinda which follows the first.
For many years you couldn't get an English copy of Kalinda.. But I found one at a school Gala. I still remember what happened on the first page of Adams Empire.
Maybe when Im settled and have got new glasses Ill be able to settle in and read them again. They are both in excess off 1000 pages each.
They told me I couldn't, so I did.!!

I have started a reread just today. Jojo Moyes The Giver of Stars, about a womens group running a rural library service in 1930s Kentucky. I was cross when I realised I had read it before, but then remembered how good it was...

morning ladies We have a touch of fog this morning, but the rain is meant to clear today.
It will be another quiet day for me, I'm on 'light duties' for a week. So, a bit of housework to do and maybe some embroidery later on. The housework is no biggie, the vacuum cleaner is lovely and light and can be pushed along with one finger. But clean sheets on the bed will have to wait as the mattress is really heavy.
Daylight saving finishes tonight, I will miss our longer summer evenings. And I think the school holidays have started.
Thanks for the book titles, I'll do some investigating and see if our library has them. Although we are still working our way through the pile we bought from the book fair, and the pile MrK's brother-in-law gave us.
I think today will be a better day, yesterday was a tad blah but I put that down to the sedative they gave me.
happy crafting

I don't think I have read a bad one by Jojo Moyes, but occasionally she can be a bit soppy, lol. But every now and then a bit of emotion is a good thing.
Skies are clear here in the smoke and my click'n collect is being sorted at New World including a bunch of stuff designed to decongest and reduce coughing, so I shall put myself together later today and let the scoot whisk me down to pick it up. Then I shall make leek and potato soup, and more lemon honey and hope that encourages a full and rapid recovery. Even the Tatt is over this bloody thing.
I too need to vac, but I doubt the energy levels will cope with that today, but there's always tomorrow.

Morning everyone
The sun is just coming through the clouds. Tad chilly tho lol.
I had my own heart event yesterday. Just some strong tightness of the chest, heart rate was ok and it passed. Im seeing my DR on Monday morning so Prescribed myself rest and light duties.. when Ya moving yeah right lol.
Today tho Im going to clear anything recyclable into the bin. its recycle week this week.
Ill be messaging the property manager on Monday or I might email so its there. To tell her I wasn't happy with this cowboy painter walking around talking to someone on his phone for nearly an hour. I just felt like he was casing the place.
Im actually considering stopping their rent.. the worst thing that can happen is they will kick me out, lol Im already going. And they can have the bond to make up for it. But Ill decide that on Monday.
Have a gentle day everyone. We all sound like we need it lol.

Good morning - absolutely beautiful day in the Bay - we need rain but I am certainly not complaining .One good thought I have about my wool cheater is I was going to give her the tossed aside half blanket because it can be pulled apart washed and reused but my sister knits lovely things out of bits of different random colours so at the last minute kept it
I re read books often - two that spring to mind as they are absolute favourites - I know this much is true - Wally Lamb absolutely brilliant writing about twins - one is paranoid schizophrenic- quite a big book
The other is Racing in the Rain - the life of a dog by Garth Stein - the writing is stunning - the story he weaves into the text through the life of a Labrador terrier cross grabs your heart - small book quick read
We need to talk about Kevin is another quick unforgettable read .Love my books
My son is holding his breath with Trump at the moment kiwi timber going into the US market is free from tariffs so long may he concentrate on charging penguins on remote islands and leave our timber exempt.Robie thinks kiwi shoppers may win with prices dropping - I know some people think the supermarkets buy their meat from the farmers but they buy it from the big meat processing plants that have overseas owners so all the best mince etc went to the US and we paid the same price for lower grade - same when they had a glut of lamb it would go in a container overseas and sold cheap - Fonterra the same we pay the export prices and the Apple market - again Supermarkets don’t buy off the orchard they buy from the market .Under the new grocery regulations Robie faces a fine of half a million dollars if he buys direct from a grower - it all has to go through head office - so as you can imagine Nicola Willis has them all shaking their heads they have spent millions setting up a centralised purchasing system to meet the new Grocery Commissioner regulations and to avoid 500k fines and now she is going to seperate them all out again - poor polling panic I think .Have you seen the clip that has emerged of Trump in 1988 being interviewed by Oprah talking about the tariffs way back then - it’s worth a look just to see his hair !
Be careful about mucking around with your rent Popeye without telling them first- you may need them as a reference and property managers are like the Mafia
Fresh fish for lunch - my brother put his Kontiki line out this morning and has caught guarnard so I am looking forward to his arrival - lemon is picked and peeper grinder and a knob of butter is at the ready

I second that Jan, about popeye dealing to the landlord. Better to just obey the rules and minimise the stress especially with the move. As tempting as it is to assert our rights the fallout always means we tenants are on a losing game.
As for supermarket prices, that was my first thought too Jan. Our local New World is known for its fabulous staff, but we know to be wary of the fruit and veg because he is forced to buy in tier two produce. The monster P'n S a few kays down the round has exceptional quality produce at great prices, but thosr of us who can't access that place have no alternative but to get the lower quality at pricier rates. But his meat bargains are great, especially if we shop on a Wednesday, after super Tuesday has run its course and the prices go down lol. I loved the lamb contract failures, hadn't had roast lamb for years till they hit the shelves. More please!
As for the political beat up over supermarkets, Willis is also on a dead horse with that one. If there was room in the market another operator would be here already, our market is just too small and too far away from international warehousing. But there's nothing stopping us from shopping independent, so long as we can afford it. And maybe the new Don't Buy American campaign can help with that. Maybe we'll develop a taste for Italian made passata instead of Heinz...

Yep, support your local greengrocer. We do. A tray of 30 size 7 eggs is $13.99, much cheaper. And the cream they bring in is proper jersey cow cream, nice and thick and so so good! And cheaper than Fonterra. They have an amazing selection of Asian foods as well, really interesting stuff you just don't see on the supermarket shelves. And this summer we could mix and match stone fruit as it was all the same price.
I've done housework and been into town to buy some potting mix. The lovely people at the Warehouse put it into the car for me. And NO heart flutters! Am tired, but not gasping for breath. By now I would be flaked out on the sofa lol. Life is on the up!

Yeah I admit its tempting to be naughty.. But I cant see me doing it.
I just hate the way they are treating me after being so good for all these years. I hope to only have 2 landlords, Robynn for this coming one and then The Government for a social housing if I need it in the future.. Thankfully Robynn's house is mortgage free etc. so no chance of it suddenly needing to be sold. They live in another house they own so its for the long haul.
I've emptied another room.. Pulled the recycle bin inside which made it much easier.. Have vacuumed but I reckon Ill have to do it again before I leave, cos there is bound to be dead crickets in there.
Don't understand them really. I guess they come in for the warmth, then they die cos there isn't any food lol.
I've decided Ill set up the bed in the spare room, cos my friend from Taranaki will be up for my birthday, one month till Im 60 arrgghhhh !!!!!!!! lol. Ill set the kitchen up, cos I need to make my cake and lemon meringue pie. And the lounge..
Anything else will happen over time. Im not going to push myself too hard.. I admit to being tired, and the heart thing yesterday was a bit of a worry. I do know tho I need some more nitrolingual.. It would have sorted it in a flash.
I got a piece of snapper at new world yesterday so I might have that tonight. Have to admit I wasn't keen on buying fish when there was two of us, but its ok for one lol.. And No waste.
Our town only has new world and a small fresh choice. People have been asking for more competition here.. Cant see it happening in my life time.. But stupidly 20ish kms away we have New world, 2 woolworths and Pak n Save.
We are to Auckland as What Mangakino was to Taupo Councils.. A bit on the edge, Enough to take the rates from but not to do anything for the area.
Got the cricket on.
They told me I couldn't, so I did.!!
