Hello everyone.  I'm looking for advice about the shingles vaccine, Shingrix.   Is it worth getting?  I've missed the free vaccination so it will cost around $800 I believe.   I'm pretty sure I had chicken pox as a child.

Happy birthday, mica Smile yep, another K9 will come along and fill that hole in your hearts. My sister changed breeds as she couldn't face another the same as the Fluffy One. She felt she would be comparing one against the other. Me, I'd be happy with another JR Heart They 'fit' us Smile

OMG, Olive! $800!!! We were talking about with my sister-in-law when she called in for lunch and some help with a powerpoint on Monday. She's a retired nurse and said she has nursed a few people with shingles and the pain is excruciating. So, it would depend I suppose, what your risks are and how much of a chance you are willing to take. And how much money you are prepared to spend. You may have to google search but be aware of those rabbit holes. Your doctor should be able to explain it. Scratch that, the pharmacist would be the better bet, I think. They know more about the drugs than the doctors.

I have spent a very happy two and a half hours in the garden, and I feel great. Sir Ed has been planted with a full 30L bag of compost, weeds pulled, another ground cover thing pruned, and the pile of weeds left over from two weeks ago binned. And my trolley is loaded with Eye Spy and another 30L bag of compost ready to be planted tomorrow. The Waikato Cardiology team will never really know how grateful I am to them, even though I've said thank you many many times lol.

Happy birthday Mica, hope you have a lovely day. There will sooner or later be another dog which needs a home.

Awful weather here yesterday, just managed to get dreaded shopping & home again when it started tipping down, with a howling gale getting loads of leaves off the trees.

And today it's cold but at least sunny now. Might even get a bit more gardening in later with luck, have managed to get all the tomatoes picked due to the cold of a morning

Happy birthday Mica.

Yep I see alot of people wait to get a new pet... It wont make you miss them any less as time goes on. In fact to me it means you will remember them more when the new addition reminds you of something the previous had done.

Olive I have had shingles. And to be honest the pain was worse than open heart surgery and gall stones... Mine affected my lungs, I could barely breathe without pain. A friends mum had it near her eye. the pain was excruciating for her..

Do some homework, talk to the Chemist and Dr.. but if I had the money I would get the shots.. I think its two, not 100% sure on that.

I will be rocking up for the free one when I get to 65. Ohh is it 60 or 65? I better check that. I dont want to miss out..

NEVER want it again.

Yes its 65.

Yep, it is - I had it. Apparently not as effective as the over priced one (imo all medications should be free, paid with our taxes) but better than nothing.

And I know I had chicken pox - still got the scars to prove it!

If I remember rightly, I think that was one of those things which parents would take their kids to visit other kids who had it, in order to 'get it over with'.

I had the vaccine, at 65, but changed gps mid process so only had the first shot. Apparently I would need a complete redo to be safe, but there's no way I could afford it, so I soldier on and try not to think about it.

If you can afford it, then go for it.

I had an interesting day today. I have been trying to hold someone at arms length to preserve my own mental health. This woman is very needy and plays the victim, with passive aggressive strategies that I find depressing and intrusive. I had hoped being a little cool and not responding to texts and phonecalls might get her to back off but no such luck. And today I was bailed up in the supermarket by this twitchy teary eyed woman demanding to know what she had done wrong... Awkward. But I told her this wasn't about her, wasn't something she could fix, and was entirely my choice to put some distance between us for my own mental health, and I would be grateful if she would just back off.

Whereupon she thanked me for giving her something to think about...

Gosh I dislike drama queens. And I am unwilling to be anyone's mental health counsellor, heavens, I can't even keep myself sane. But with luck, I am off her Christmas card list.

Why are people so weird?

I've wondered that for years - my best guess so far is that Earth might be the insane asylum for the universe...

morning ladies Smile It's chilly this morning lol.

lmao Lilith, that would explain an awful lot! And sometimes we do have to distance ourselves from others for our own peace of mind. I stop passive aggressiveness in its tracks. I hate when someone is trying to manipulate me into doing things I don't want to do. So now I'm direct almost to the point of rudeness and say no, not happening. I find it a sneaky way for someone to dump their drama onto my shoulders.

I can officially dig the garden today lol. Two roses to go and one to move back a bit. I'm also using the small chainsaw today, one of my favourite garden toys. The lawnmower guy comes today as well, I had better pick the mushrooms growing on the lawn first. Omgg they are soooo tasty Tongue

Good morning.

Winter is on the way ... cool but the sun is shining.

We got back home yesterday in one piece,  the rest of the family got caught up for hours in a couple of road accidents on their way home the day before.  Only 2 driving incidents that we saw ... both crazy lane crossing maneuvers ... one caused a bus to jam on brakes, the other at high speed on the Kaimais. I saw several people on their phones on the Ak motorway,  one guy tapping away  Angry

Sorry to read about your dog Mica ... a bitter sweet birthday for you. They sure leave a hole when no longer around. No more dogs for us (I think) but shall consider a cat again down the track a bit.

I too missed out on the shingles vaccine. Might have a talk to nurse/doctor about it.  My understanding is if you get onto anti viral meds very early on, if you get shingles,  it can be managed.

Catch up day today.  A lot of weed and lawn growth after nearly 100mm of rain.  School day first so had better get moving.

Enjoy the day all.

Morning everyone

The sun is out and yes chilly..

Hunni I have the same problem. I have one "Friend" who just keeps coming back.. Im not her mother, free doctor or counselor. but she seems to think so. I even tried a post on FB..

Last Friday when I have the heart blip I told her, not a comment at all about it. Just going on about her mental health. So I put a post up on Fb saying that I guess this person wasn't a friend when she couldn't even ask if I was ok.. I said I would reply if it wasn't you... So all my friends gathered around, phone calls texts and comments.. She commented with "It was Me"... I said yes it was..

Then she text with Im such a horrible person.. and I replied with There you go, its always about you.. Still didn't ask how I was..

I truly think I will have to be rude to tell her go away impolitely. But even then she will make it about her and want to come back.

Bloods this morning, and Ill take the swap cookbook with me. I leant one to one of the ladies as I hadn't written the recipe out for her, and said Id get it back this week. cos its signed by Jo Seager... Then when in the oppy on Monday there was another copy, so Ill take it in and swap it lol.

Groceries, well drink and the tv guide lol..

Then my covid shot this afternoon... My flu shot is still a hard bruised badly lump... I've never had that happen before. So the Covid one will have to be in my right arm which means both will be narly for a while.

I have a chicken pox scar in my eyebrow. I was Lucky when I got my shingles, my friend recognized them. So I was on antivirals very quickly. The Chemist told me if I was his wife, he would take me home, put me on the couch. Only get up for the loo and shower, for a month.. Total rest.. he was right.

And yep chicken pox and Measels Parties when I was a kid too.. I totally get why they did it.. gets it all over and done with alot faster.

Glad you had a good trip Roma. I admit to not liking the idiots on the road enough that I try and keep travel to a minimum, or travel when not busy.

Have a fab day all.

Sunny nippy start

Good to be home Roma

Some people just don't add  anything to our lives  best avoided  where possible.

Had nice birthday dinner with family.
Developed  muscle chills and headache  last night a bit wrung out this morning - lovely reaction to vax guess the old immune system is doing its job

So no plans for today got someone to cover my shift this morning

Enjoy your day

I told my chemist about getting an excellent (!?!) reaction to the flu jab and he laughed, but did point out he has heard anecdotal evidence that the rsv bug is moving through our community at high speed, so now I might have a natural immunity to that one as well as this years vaxed flu and covid. I told him I'd rather have the needle, lol.

And yes, about people who make it all about them. It was being 'herded' into doing what she wanted that probably broke it for me. I've become rather averse to being manipulated since gaining my freedom from looking after other people, though it is very different when those people are loved ones, it is still an imposition that can get to be a burden. I like being responsible for just me, even if it comes with costs.

Today I am going to attempt a bed linen change and then I need to redo a terracotta bowl for my winter deck. I scored bargain primroses yesterday in the chuck out bin, with great fat green leaves, just waiting for a bit more room to produce buds for the cool days. I am so happy with them I might grab another punnet when I go down tomorrow to get the other half of the fortnight's groceries. And I have this little round red pumpkin that needs to be made into soup, it's going to be a busy day...

Good bargain, OHH Smile I always check those bins too lol. Amazing what you find.

I've planted the new roses so one whole fenceline will be covered with climbing roses. They can intertwine over spring/summer/ autumn and look glorious Big Grin AND I dug up Ingrid Bergman and replanted her further back in the garden. It's the first time I've used a chainsaw on a rose lol but boy, she looks so much better and hopefully some new canes will grow. She's a second hand rose I dug out of a neighbour's garden, so I have no idea how old she is, but she was pretty narly.

Kettle has boiled, time for a cuppa Smile

My husband asked his GP for his opinion about getting the shingles vaccine. GP said that anyone with a good immune system probably doesn't need to bother unless struck by an illness that lowers immunity. This was taking into consideration the cost. Given that neither of us has had even a cold since 2008 I don't think we'll get it. (The reason I am sure about the year is that my last cold was when I was travelling in Spain and very tired. I also remember buying a wonderful cold remedy called "Vincigrip" which was bursting with pseudoephedrine and perked me up enormously.)

I got my shingles cos I was really run down. Had been looking after my mother, up all hours, then making soo many trips to hospital, sometimes twice a day. With a 45 minute drive each way.

So I was extremely run down.

That why I knew putting MrP into a home was going to help my health too.

The so called friend was back at the drs this morning. Its not cellulitis in the eyes, she has 3 abscesses.. I said are you having any bloods done.. her answer No, I said did you ask.. her reply No... I said you are getting abscesses and boils and that screams that your system is struggling and you are not keeping yourself well enough. Not eating well and probably not taking the vitamin's she reckons she has.

I asked how hubby was as he had a fall yesterday.. he is on crutches, her answer.. ok I guess.

So I commented with Im ok Thanks for asking..

She was going to have a rest.. at 10-45am..

Told her its time she took responability for her own health. And Im not going to be her dr, counsellor or Feel better person anymore... so she's quiet now.

I just saw and shared an awesome post on FB about our new boundaries Hunni.. when I figure out how to save it so I can post it here Ill do so.

You have done well. Making a bed is a tough thing on your own.. I have to shut Madam out of the room to do mine. Since I have gone back to the chair I think why do I still make my bed, but there might just be a time where Im willing to give it a go again.. When I've moved it wont be up for a while, but when I do make it, it will be full on winter And the Weighted blanket..  It will tempt me to sleep there occasionally,  the weighted blanket is like having a massive Hug.

Time to get ready to go get shot in the arm again  Argghhhhhh

We should introduce the two "Problem" people. They night get on really well together lol.

I admit I really want to tell mine to Go back to Aussie and have her surgery.. Saves our government  thus Us having to pay for it

Well well...

It appears My Flu shot sight is inflamed and grumpy... which equates to the pain, bruise and heat radiating from it.

I went in for the covid and mentioned I hope it didn't react like the flu shot one had. They had a DR on hand who was actually MrPs Dr at the second rest home. Shes nice.. Prescribed some steroid for it..

I think its time to just not have either in the future. Ive only had the flu once in my life, well before vaccines came out.

The Covid one I always react to...

I dont mingle with that many people and I could start wearing a mask if I felt it was needed.

I text the husband of the friend and told him Im not having any more contact with his wife. That Im over it all and I need to pull away for my own health and happiness.

he responded and said that was a bit heavy.

I said I just need to make time for me, to be happy and healthy.... Just got a text tho asking why was I over it with her..

Im sort of undecided. Cos if I know her well enough she would have made him reply asking that.. And he lives with it so should know anyway.

I could simply say ask her.. But I really dont want to keep talking to them... Its a Pity cos he really deserves someone far better.

Now to FB to see if she has commented on there.

morning ladies Smile Another lovely day in the Waikato Smile

Housework needs doing and not just the lick and a promise I've been doing over the last six months. And I have a few plants to pot and a replacement sage to plant to put out in the garden. I've 'broken the back' of the pruning and now I can leave the rest until they have finished later in the season. I'll need to water Ingrid Bergman and the azalea I moved and top up the bird bath. I get told if there is no water in the bird bath lol. The piwakawaka followed MrK into his workshop yesterday and flitted around him as he was working. All the doors were open so it could fly out anytime. It had a good nosey around and flew out again.
