But this comment is interesting about the timing, and it was from a movie so maybe not his own words...

I'm late to the discussion, but it's important to note that the movie was released in 1940 and that allied intelligence agencies learned about the nazi death machine in 1941. Chaplin was on record saying he would have handled the topic very differently if he had known
