Housing falls far short of what's needed.

How very unusual for this govt.... Angry

Disgraceful. This shouldn't be happening, no one should be homeless.

It wasn't always like this. It doesn't have to be like this.

Once upon a time decades ago, in 1935 " Then Minister of Housing Walter Nash told New Zealand it could not prosper or progress with a population that "lack[s] the conditions necessary for a 'home' and 'home life', in the best and fullest meaning of those words".

So basically saying that no one could prosper until all were housed. Which is a very different view to the present & some previous govts.

Himself was on Q&A this morning, looks like the outrage over the increased homelessness has got to the Nats. They are easing up on the stupid rules foisted on Winz staffers and promise 300 dedicated homes for rough sleepers.

Wonder where they'll find those...

On the home front, we have a new tenant, moved in over night (in the dark), to the unit opposite the alcoholic strange one. Which is good, because being male he should be safe from that one...

Funny how you get so much more cynical about politicians as you get older.

New tenant sounds intriguing.

Our troll must have come back from holiday! The previous government were at least trying to catch up with housing demand. The present bunch of wankers has stopped the building of social housing, so their landlord mates can rip off renters.

I suppose it was inevitable really...

I noticed earlier that David Seymour was on FB; one or two people disagreeing with him, others clearly love him.

Or more accurately price rises due to the supply and demand model benefit existing owners (in property terms) and suppliers (in retail) so long as there is enough elasticity in the market for those increases to be tolerated. Those on the buyers' end of the equation are generally impacted negatively.

That'll be why vulture landlords form Auckland descended on a small town in the SI & bought up those for sale ex state houses. And then proceeded to rent them out.

At Auckland prices....

They were a bit naughty during Covid, with their jaunts around the country, but generally the rest of NZ just tolerates them Wink
This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.
