I suspect it has more to do with Trade Me closing comments on this topic (and access to existing content?). Seems to have touch a nerve at TM  Rolleyes

I do like it when it ISN'T  my fault lol...  Big Grin

"Post is closed for comments." - no surprises there
Looks like TM are restricting access to comments on this issue. New link they provided me with here: https://help.trademe.co.nz/hc/en-us/comm...m-November

I have a post "Pending". Their comm's and overall functionality really do suck.

I have just been through my watchlist, which I have to say is ridiculously long - and unticked all those listings where a service fee is being demanded.

I wonder if tbose 'random' sellers realise they are losing possible/maybe sales...

Good way of reducing temptation for me though.

One of mine is pending too. And I didn't use any rude words.  Big Grin

how much is this service fee?
This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.

Definite smell of maximising their ticket clipping per sale.

Just had a very strange thing happen with one of their notifications of a post on that thread. At about 7:30 I received an email about a post that was promoting a physical demonstration outside TM's Wellington headquarters for members in the area. But, all of a sudden the post I was reading disappeared along with the email that related to it. I didn't even think an email could be cancelled like that one appeared to do.

TM have definitely got a hornets' nest on their hands over this with threats of Commerce Commission action and all. Can't see this ending well for them.

Sorry, misunderstood your question. Ping payment carries a 2.1% fee on the sale price. That's on top of the ~10% success fee plus any added listing fee options, all apply to sale price plus shipping cost. Some of that can be justified for online businesses to 'put their brand out their' and for any savvy online trader to expand their customer email database for targeted marketing purposes.

The amount and tone of comment on TM's community is a clear indication that their sellers won't take this lying down.

The randomly imposed service fee appears to be .99c, but some $1 start auctions have 'may attract a service fee' with no amount specified. Would you bid on such an auction?

Of course not, what are they smoking? No way I would agree to pay an unspecified service fee, it could turn out to be anything, the whole concept is probably literally illegal.

I gave up on Uber Eats and Menulog because of the extra "service fees" (and also because Menulog's service was garbage the last couple of times I used it)

Listing $1 reserve is risky as it is let alone ping fees.
The amount of things ive sold for a dollar I gave up on that ages ago.
I remember back in the day TM would always promote dollar reserve listings and claim they sold for more.

Well, last night a seller listed an item that I collect at a price that might be a bit high and the listing says a service fee applies, and there is no option to pay except via Ping so I have asked them to please explain.

Not just stirring the pot, because it would fit my little collection rather neatly. But we shall see...

Does it not say anywhere what the service fee value actually is, even at the checkout page?
Because that seems like it would be very dodgy indeed and should be reported if so.

Response came in, the seller offers me a buy now, but no explanation of the service fee thing. Maybe they don't know?

Which is weird...

The seller is probably unaware of the service fee. One thing that has become very apparent to me from the recent TM Community activity on the Ping issue is that the functionality of the platform is rubbish. I'm getting constant emails about comments being left on that thread but the link back into the 'forum' takes me to some random place in the thread rather than to the comment that was placed. Trade Me's IT seems to be 'nailed together' and definitely no somewhere buyers should be happy to pay even more for TM's dodgy payment system.

As soon as they put a Buy Now up the service fee showed up as .99c...
