Red zone camp, Burwood, CHCH
#1
This lot do seem to have a happy knack of spreading discord wherever they go. Its now autumn; they surely don't intend to remain there through winter - they'll be freezing bits off if they try that.

"Campers occupying the Christchurch red zone have been aggressive towards locals, cutting up trees, defecating in bushes, and lighting fires, say residents who want them gone.
Christchurch City Council staff have been meeting with a group which set up a “freedom village” in the Burwood part of the former residential red zone and have even dropped off portable toilets and a rubbish skip – but are still unclear on what to do next.

The group, which has links to Kyle Chapman – former leader of far-right group NZ National Front – erected tents and towed caravans onto the site between Brooker Ave, Dunair Dr and New Brighton Rd late last week. A Stuff journalist was assaulted near the site this week.Bebe Frayle, the Burwood representative on the Waitai Coastal-Burwood Community Board, said she had spoken to concerned locals.

People had been verbally abused by the campers, she said, and some campers had behaved aggressively towards dog walkers."

wankers. theyre just a bunch of homeless losers, jobless incels.
they are camping under the guise of 'protesting'

id like to see the community gather with some pitchforks and such
and head down there to assist with decampment.

we could wait until theyre all at work and burn the tents down...wait no. never mind.

A good steady downpour over a couple of weeks should sort them out, with luck.

looks like the council is giving them a week?
they will only go somewhere else. its not about protest, its not about mandates.
its a bunch of homeless antisocials searching for a reason to exist.

The group have been condemned by local iwi. How the devil any group which has any association with the racist Kyle Chapman can claim descent from Waitaha, Ngāti Māmoe, and other North Island iwi makes no sense whatever.

It's part of the "sovereign citizen" schtick.

So by letting them take a foothold it goes to show that nothing has been learnt from the Wellington occupation, I say occupation because no way will they be protesting unless they are protesting about the protest!
Despite the high cost of living it remains popular

The locals aren't happy about their being there apparently - mind you if the weather takes a turn for the worse & it gets really cold, that might shift them. Very cold here last night & this morning & those tents don't look that warm.

Council's given them the push; they must leave. I bet they don't go quietly.

They're having another 'protest march' here today. And Derek Tait says he's 'thinking seriously' about standing for mayor in CHCH.
Can't say that I like his chances much.

Their problem seems to be to at least some extent, that they're not coping well with a woman leader who is on the left. Coming from their more conservative right wing viewpoint, that isn't really surprising.

Seemingly the protesters do...  and appropriately the iwi are not having a bar of it...

There's been a suspicious car fire in the red zone, close to the 'protesters' camp. And some of these plonkers have now set up camp in Latimer square again, with signs about 'freedom fighters' fgs. I suppose they have to see themselves like that - its that or complete & utter idiots.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/1...ation-site

"A car has been gutted in a suspicious fire, just 100 metres from tents making up part of Christchurch’s “freedom village”.

The campsite, in the Burwood part of the former residential red zone, first appeared just over a week ago.

The occupation has attracted the ire of both locals and iwi, who have accused them of “antisocial” and “aggressive” behaviour towards residents, and of making “a clear attack on the authority of Ngāi Tūāhuriri'”, which holds mana whenua status over the land.

“Our Parks and Reserves Bylaw clearly states that people cannot erect tents and structures, or park vehicles, on park or reserve land. They are also not allowed to remove vegetation.

“Now that the group is aware that they are occupying the land illegally, we expect them to do the right thing, which is to pack up their tents and structures, and leave the area peacefully after the weekend.”

So now they have graduated from setting tents on fire to setting cars on fire, if they want to fight for freedom send them over to Ukraine then they can fight for all the freedom they want.
