They really are the gift that keeps on giving!
You have to wonder just who did the 'swearing in' - a self proclaimed marshal, perhaps?? That process must have been fascinating.
I think we should offer them the chance to move to the USA, since that's where their most bizarre ideas seem to come from.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/we...ay-service

"A “common law sheriff” accused of "hijacking" an Anzac Day service held at Paraparaumu, says the group had no intention of upsetting those in attendance.

Ricky Cribb, was one of about nine people sworn in as a member of the so-called ANZ sheriffs movement following the Monday morning service in the Kāpiti Coast town.

As to why they chose to attend the Paraparaumu service, he said they had a number of people travelling in from of Whanganui, Palmerston North and Wellington to be sworn in and it was the most central location. “That seemed to be the best place that would suit such an auspicious occasion.”

He said they wanted to be sworn in “in the sanctity” and “sacredness” of Anzac Day."

Indeed it sounds very like a convenience more than anything, which allows them to gain publicity for their daftness. You'd think they'd be embarrassed to hold such bizarre views but apparently not - maybe in 10 or 20 years. Big Grin Big Grin

So I got a bit cross at TM while browsing for some wool fabric, and posted a wee vent about idiots who don't know yarn, and roving are not fabric... And when it was suggested I should report the miscreant traders for wrong category listing I suggested I might need a Sheriff badge.

They gave me a badge for posting.

Four year old takes car for a drive.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-61294584

"A four-year-old boy could have a future in Formula One after taking his mum's car for a drive in the Netherlands.

Police in the central city of Utrecht said the child crashed into two parked cars on Saturday, before leaving the scene in his pyjamas and bare feet.

Concerned bystanders called police after spotting him walking down the street alone in the cold."

And then there's this:
https://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-news-from...e-49073042
"A Chinese teenager has been handed a hefty fine after he broke into an airport and took two planes for a late-night joyride.

But he has also been offered a rare opportunity to learn how to fly."

You couldn't make this BS up! "Christian men's conference" fgs! Its really difficult to see just how big trucks & flames can in any way realistically do this:
'The conference “exists to empower and motivate men to live out God’s view of manhood and be the best husbands, fathers, and leaders God has called them to be.”

Sort of in the same way as a shopping trip with friends might 'empower & motivate women to be the best wives & mothers.' Or not.

https://god.dailydot.com/christian-misso...BCP2vonG6Y

"Good news: there’s an annual Christian men’s conference, which means you can now start going every year! For 2022, the location for all this religious bro-ery is Missouri, and things are getting off to a very hot start. On Friday night, the weekend was kicked off with an exhibition of what we’ve all dreamed of seeing when feel our most masc—a monster truck driving off a giant ramp through columns of flames while electric guitars wail and the lights flash. Confusion and over-stimulation is the theme of the weekend because that’s what being a guy is all about.

The video of the big moment is on Twitter, of course, and it’s worth a watch. I almost get why this is so fun and exciting, but I do think the truck just landing after edging up there on the platform for forever is a bit of a letdown. The driver should get ejected through the roof and then the whole thing should catch fire, in my opinion."

Couple sue son for not giving them a grandchild...

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-61424869

"A couple in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand are suing their only son and his wife for not giving them a grandchild after six years of marriage.

Sanjeev and Sadhana Prasad, 61 and 57, say they used up their savings raising their son, paying for his pilot's training as well as a lavish wedding.

They are demanding compensation worth nearly $650,000 (£525,000) if no grandchild is born within a year."

But wait - there's more! Also in India.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-47154287

"Indian man to sue parents for giving birth to him.A 27-year-old Indian man plans to sue his parents for giving birth to him without his consent.

Mumbai businessman Raphael Samuel told the BBC that it's wrong to bring children into the world because they then have to put up with lifelong suffering.

Mr Samuel, of course, understands that our consent can't be sought before we are born, but insists that "it was not our decision to be born".

So as we didn't ask to be born, we should be paid for the rest of our lives to live, he argues.
n a statement, his mother Kavita Karnad Samuel explained her response to "the recent upheaval my son has created".

"I must admire my son's temerity to want to take his parents to court knowing both of us are lawyers. And if Raphael could come up with a rational explanation as to how we could have sought his consent to be born, I will accept my fault," she said.

Mr Samuel's belief is rooted in what's called anti-natalism - a philosophy that argues that life is so full of misery that people should stop procreating immediately."

Oh...dear! I foolishly went looking for strange news stories & stumbled across these. That'll learn me!

The" tomb of Santa Claus," no less!

https://allthatsinteresting.com/st-nicholas-grave
"He must be because according to archaeologists in Turkey, they found his grave, buried beneath St. Nicholas Church in the town of Demre.

For centuries, the location of the grave of St. Nicholas of Myra — the inspiration for the modern-day Santa Claus — has been contested. Historical records have claimed that he was buried at the church that bears his name, but extensive searches of the grounds revealed nothing of substance."

Aaaand - fed up with blokes, woman claims to have found an alien...

https://allthatsinteresting.com/abbie-bela
“The next evening, I sat next to my open window,” Bela said. She waited. And as she began to fall asleep around 12:15 a.m., a flying saucer swept into view. Before Bela knew it, she wasn’t in her bedroom any longer. “There was a bright green beam which transported me to the UFO.”

Most might be alarmed by such a turn of events. But not Bela. “I’m one of those people who all my life had weird encounters,” she explained on her YouTube channel."

Of course you are....

I LOVE this one!
https://allthatsinteresting.com/hasidic-blindfolds

"A group of young Hasidic Jewish men was seen traveling through an airport blindfolded, apparently so they would not be exposed to the potential sight of ‘immodestly’ dressed women.

In 2013, an Orthodox Jewish man completely covered himself in plastic sheeting during a flight to avoid being exposed to the dead should the plane fly over a cemetery.

This man was believed to be a Kohein, who are religious descendants of the priests of ancient Israel. Kohanim are banned from having any sort of contact with the dead in order to remain pure. This includes visiting cemeteries or even flying over them.

To try to save themselves, Kohanim employ a controversial solution that is not entirely allowed in the church — wrapping themselves in plastic bags. The bag is said to create a sort of barrier between the individual and the ‘tumah,’ or surrounding impurities.

In 2015, another controversy arose when a Hasidic man refused to sit next to a woman on a plane because she was a woman not related to him.

The flight ended up being delayed due to the disagreement."
