The Ukraine War
#1
There are a number of sources I follow, for background information on this conflict.

The prime source is Perun - an Australian gamer who started posting hour long presentations at the start of the war - his postings suggest an academic background in defence economics and procurement.

For an English presentation from a Ukranian, Operator Starsky is the man. He is a press officer in the Ukranian Army.

https://www.youtube.com/c/StarskyUA

A straight Ukranian view, in Ukranian, comes from Sternenko. These I watch with closed captions and auto translate turned on.

https://www.youtube.com/c/STERNENKO

And finally, for a soldier's eye view, there is a blog which posts conversations with an American volunteer fighting in Ukraine - this man is a Vietnam veteran, and professional soldier, he is 76!

Ive been following this war for some time and things are looking in Ukraine's favour at long last.
The weapons from the west are most definitely making an impact.
Right now Kherson is apparently being evacuated so that kind of indicates a retreat which has been expected for some time after Ukraine forces cut off their supply lines.

I'd like to think that Ukraine will win but Putin's ruthless & I think he's unlikely to give up & go away, more's the pity. I've begun to believe that it will only end if some brave person executes Putin.

I think it definitely is going to end with Putin being killed in some shape or form.
Lots of russian resistance to the war now and there are videos of people being chased and taken away for conscription, I dont think there is going to be much morale on the battlefield!

This is an interesting turn of events, he can't last long doing this sort of stuff

Quote:Police and military officers swooped down on a Moscow business centre this week unannounced.

They were looking for men to fight in Ukraine – and they seized nearly everyone they saw. Some musicians, rehearsing. A courier there to deliver a parcel. A man in his mid-50s from a Moscow service agency, very drunk, with a walking disability.
“I have no idea why they took him,” said Alexei, who, like dozens of others in the office complex, was rounded up and taken to the nearest military enlistment office, part of a harsh new phase in the Russian drive.
In cities and towns across Russia, men of fighting age are going into hiding to avoid the officials who are seizing them and sending them to fight in Ukraine.

This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.

"A comrade of the Chelyabinsk men who survived an overwhelming Ukrainian assault called a friend and described what happened, according to the transcript of a phone call published by BBC News Russian. He said he had been given no training. When he fled, he said, corpses lay everywhere.

“We got there the first day, having never fired a shot, and they sent us, like meat, straight to an assault unit, with two grenade launchers. I had at least read the instructions on how to use them.”

By Day 3, the soldier and his comrades were in frontline trenches.

Almost daily, videos surface on Russian social media of conscripted soldiers, angry because they have not been given decent uniforms, weapons, training or quarters."

It wouldn't be too surprising, if a large number of those conscripted in this way simply surrender to the Ukrainian troops, rather than fight them.

That's what I'm hoping for too and it already appears to be happening in some shape or form, but we haven't even really seen the first wave of conscripts arriving on the battlefield yet, but going by what I've seen, I can't see many putting up much of a fight.

Realistically, immediate surrender is probably their best hope of survival, given the lack of training.

Saw the top photo in this article posted on twitter recently with a comment following it claiming that 18 year old would be conscripted as of November 1st.
Looks like 'Grandad's' army with plenty of grey hair and pot bellies. Cannon fodder .

Poor sods; but those older ones might have the sense to escape if an opportunity comes up, or surrender as fast as possible.
The good thing is that it does make it obvious that  Putin is desperate. Though of course, that might make him do something stupider than what he's already done.

Even old guys are fighting in this war - this video is about a Ukranian tank crew. Turn on closed captions, and select auto translate to English in settings.

Its really sad, lots of young lives wasted.
It is good to see that at least a few have been surrendering during this occupation anyway.
Ukraine has a website running with instructions on how to surrender. its called "i want to live"
https://hochuzhit.com/
Russia has been trying to block traffic to it because they are getting alot of hits from conscripts.

I sometimes wonder what our world might look like if our ancestors has chosen peaceful trading rather than invading & colonising other countries.
We're a fairly awful species sometimes.

Great to see Kherson recaptured from Russia.

I expect they had no option but to retreat due to winter coming and lack of supplies.

Ive been following this channel a bit, he has been doing daily updates on the situation on the battlefront.
