Windows 11 mail - imap ?
#1
Anyone had any success setting up the Windows 11 default basic Mail program to work with Xtra, as imap?

Assisting my sister with her Laptop I can get imap to work using Outlook (2010) on the same Laptop so I know the account settings etc are all good.  I've set the various servers and ports correctly but it just refuses to sync.

While Outlook is ok, it's really overkill for her needs and I'm trying to keep it simple as possible.  Using imap to work best with her mobile phone.

But, I also had the same issue on my own Desktop PC, I normally use Thunderbird but tried setting up Mail to help with the troubleshooting, doesn't work on that either.  Gotta be something in the Xtra settings?

I'm sure I've tried everything so really interested in hearing from anyone who has actually got it working rather than "have you tried this", believe me I've gone full circle with this   Huh

TIA

first thing i do if you haven't already,  try and login at https://www.spark.co.nz/xtramail/signin/
This confirms that the email address and password are correct. (9 out of 10 times this is why thunderbird fails)

The mail app in Win 10 is yuck so I would just forget that...  Thunderbird is a good choice, but...

Thunderbird will for some dumb reason, always auto select POP for xtra email...

Once it has done that, go to the "manually configure" option listed (below server settings iirc) and change
pop to imap
pop.xtra.co.nz to imap.xtra.co.nz
and the incoming port to 993

everything else should be ok but confirm they match the spark settings

Then you need to "re-test"  and Thunderbird will "magically" find the right settings you gave it...

Then it should all just work...
This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.

Agree with King1 - Normal problem is User Name ( email Address) Password incorrect.

If you want a free email client, more stable than Thunderbird and basic usage, try emclient, ( good for two account on the free licence) it works perfectly fine with Xtra
