I find ageism more widespread than the job market. Except among us oldies, lol...

Its been happening for decades; some employers just don't want to know about anyone over 40 - which is their loss, because those people have life experience as well as their work skills which younger workers can't have at that stage of their lives.
in order to be old & wise, you must first be young & stupid. (I'm still working on that.)

It goes both ways. DH knows people in transport and trades who won't employ anyone under about 45 because they are too unreliable, full of drugs and spend all day on their phones instead of working.
