Press F1 Backup
#1
And now a late, slightly half-assed Christmas present...

Here's an almost complete backup of Press F1 and PC World Chat, saved as an .sql file. Making it hosted and searchable was problematic so have skipped that step, but all the threads and posts are here if you need it. You'll just need to load them into whatever DBMS you fancy.

May be a spam post perhaps.
It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche

That's great thanks for doing that..

Depending on the need users may be able to just use something like this

As Wai said - the "Press F1 archive" link on the "pf1.orgfree.com" page says "PAGE NOT FOUND, FILE NOT FOUND or WEBSITE NOT FOUND!"
They didn't like the zip file either by the look of it

i'm sure that download link will get sorted in due course, the good news is that it now exists...

Well it was working for a second...

Have switched the link to a Google Drive one, so it's working now. Of course you don't even need the website now,  so you can go direct: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qOLntkp...sp=sharing

Downloaded the file, but unfortunately when extracting it throws a "corrupt file" error

retried downloading again a couple more times just in case, but same result

Quote:    C:\Users\Boss2\Downloads\pf1.zip: Checksum error in pf1.sql. The file is corrupt
    C:\Users\Boss2\Downloads\pf1.zip: The archive is corrupt

Apologies, it was a 7-Zip archive - here's a link to a boring run of the mill zip:

Fun fact: The zip file format has been around since 1989.

notepad++ if you just want to open it to view the data
https://notepad-plus-plus.org/downloads/

Windows notepad will open it but will probably not cope to well with a file that size...

It will require quite a lot more work by someone to get it loaded up into a database or website...

and a happy new year folks...

Having been slightly bored tonight I have imported into MySQL the PF1 database that @yousnoozeyoulose so kindly gathered up for us...

I have also whipped up a VERY rudimentary front end for the data so it is usable...

http://pressf1.mywire.org/

BUT there are some/many issues...

Pagination - you will see the problem with that at the bottom of the index page... A *lot* of threads...
Layout - Like I said it is VERY rudimentary
Security - running on a DDNS address, no security certificates, you might need to override the browser security warnings
Search - None, as yet   Basic search or Thread titles implemented.
Forums - Press F1 and PCWorld Chat are currently amalgamated, in due course they could be separated   DONE
URL Links - No active links in posts, copy and paste to browser for now.   DONE
Quoted Posts - No provision for those haven't found one yet, but if you could let me know a thread or post ID that has quoted posts within a post, pls let me know the ID numbers...   Not really happening - there is no delineation of quoted text in the database, so no real way to capture and highlight it... I have done a pretty basic search for quoted text by splitting posts into phrases and comparing phrases with each subsequent post - Far from perfect, and I do note it seems to messing up any links in the quoted text...

Anyway, it's a start. I don't anticipate spending a huge amount of time on this but I will do the quick and easy stuff as time allows...

I have added a fairly basic search function to the press F1 backup

http://pressf1.mywire.org/index.php

Basic search of Thread titles
Live search results
Minimum 4 chars
AND search  (search for thread titles with "this" AND "that")
