National would use sanctions against those with disabilities who can't find work
#1
This really is despicable; they're so out of touch & because of that, intend  to make their situation far more difficult for some of those who are worst off.

Either that - or they know very well & simply don't care.

"The National Party's leader Christopher Luxon has confirmed Jobseeker beneficiaries with a disability or a health problem could face sanctions under National's plan to get young people off welfare.
It's drawn criticism from one of New Zealand's disabled chief executives.

Workbridge CEO Jonathan Mosen understands the barriers disabled people face in finding work.
"There are so many misconceptions out there about what disabled people are capable of that it can be really difficult to break through those misperceptions so that disabled people can find work in the first place," Mosen said.
But under a National Government young disabled beneficiaries could face benefit cuts.
"Yes, if they refuse to participate in their job plan, we will employ the sanctions," Luxon said.
"It's not that we have a lot of disabled people sitting around twiddling their thumbs. They're desperate to work," Mosen said.
National's policy would apply to under 25-year-olds who've been receiving the Jobseeker benefit for over a year.

They'd be given a job coach to help them find work and those who fail to follow their coach's plan would face sanctions including benefit reductions. While those that do find employment for at least 12 months would get a $1000 bonus.
"Thirteen-thousand young people have been on a benefit - on the Jobseeker benefit - for over a year," Luxon said.
But those 13,000 Jobseeker beneficiaries Luxon speaks of include people with a health condition or a disability.
Official data shows only about 8700 18 to 24-year-olds on the Jobseeker benefit for over a year are actually considered "work ready".

With the number of COVID recoverees who are being compromised by long COVID being estimated at 10%+ of those that have had the virus the amount of Jobseeker beneficiaries may prove more problematic than Luxon is aware of.

Always a few fakers out there, along with those who think the disabled should be pushed into work;. It is a kind of jealousy I think, the why do they get a free ride just because they are blind, or legless, or brain damaged...

They fail to recognise their own limitations, so obvious to the rest of us.

This & their intention to raise the age for superannuation just illustrates all too clearly that both ACT & National haven't the least idea how very difficult it is now for many these days.

It is a little uncertain at the moment because 50% of them are at the dentist getting some wisdom teeth installed. He should be out of convalescence and ready to go back to therapy in a couple of days. He is unwilling to be counted until his reshaped foil hat is back from the panelbeaters.

Jonathan had to become an IT expert in order to gain decent employment. He runs excellent podcasts on Disability Issues.. And I back him 100% in his statement. Government Departments, Ministries and Agencies all negatively discriminate against people with disabilities. However if you can pass as non-disabled you have a much better chance of getting employed.
One can also examine agencies that purport to help people with disabilities such as :- CCS (Crippled Children's Society), IHC (Intellectually Handicapped Children's Society) or a book edited by former Prime Minister Geoff Palmer on Mental Retardation. All such Nice Derogatory Titles. Then ask these agencies how many people with disabilities (including their own clients) that are employed by them, then tell them no client employment ~ no donation unless they change their behavior.
The Office for Disability Issues always had a non-disabled person in charge. (Deliberately of course as that was part of Carmel's Ministry) > She did not enjoy the sustained lobbying requesting a person with a disability be in charge of the new Ministry of Disabled People.
Remember that the Nazis with their eugenics program started eliminating people with disabilities long before their ethnic cleansing of Jews and Slavs. Such attitudes persist for generations.
