@!#$%^&*()_ Orbi...
#1
I hate being tech dumb.

So, at midday I get an email from Electric Kiwi telling me to plug in the Orbi as I'm now with them... Except the thing then refuses to let me on the internet. Reset. Unplug. Replug. Reset - do all those things for THREE Farkin HOURS!!!

Only to be told once I replaced the old modem and got onto E K chat, that using the old modem was fine, the Orbi isn't necessary...

Duh.

I hate being tech dumb. And I wish I had wine.  Big Grin

"Fun" aren't they Wink  Even if you do everything in the setup Guide provided some simply don't work.

Two people I know (customers) all they did was plug in the ONT into the Internet Port as per diagram ( leaving the 3 ethernet empty) It was flashing Blue, light went out after about 5 minutes and away it went. Some have used the App, some haven't.

Even netgear say you dont have to use the app. Their instructions:  See attached picture, seems this site doesn't like copy/paste text Big Grin

The reason I was there was to sort out Sky not connecting to the wireless ( every other wireless device works fine)

New fangled crap doesn't want to engage with older generation crap is what...

I feel stupid though. I should have realised the hardware is like the pipes and taps. It is who is supplying the water that matters. And it is the same water...

Btw, I tried to get them to take the thing back, but they don't want it, lol.

Hmmmn... had this vision of you from various descriptions as "Blond, bottle of gin in one hand and a pair of silk stockings in the other, while chasing R2x1 through the streets of Takapuna trying to steal parts off his mobility scooter"

Close?  Tongue Tongue

I sympathise. I used to be very tech-savvy albeit in a very specialised field and even then was sometimes in the "@!#$%^&*()_" space so fully understand the frustration of it, even when you know what you're doing. I'm also feeling pretty tech-dumb over the phone stuff in the other thread. When you don't have to use it every day it quickly gets lost.

So true, and I am convinced a lot of it is down to confidence. Just changing over from a complicated smart cellphone to a really basic one has boosted mine to the extent that I might actually contemplate upgrading sometime soon. We shall see!
