Thumbs Up
And NZ has said a clear and solid NO to a woke, divisive and damaging government.
The last 6 years has been hard, and change will take time, bit let's all be positive.

or NZers has been bribed with tax cuts and promises of fixing everything... Now Luxon needs to make good on it...

I'll be waiting for Luxon to tell Seymour to "calm down" like he did to Hipkins in the debates. Luxon really doesn't have a clue politically. He's a CEO that expects his lackies to sort out the details of what he promises will be done.

And the results are potentially going to shift against National et al and the game ain't over till the fat lady sings. Luxon knows this and it is why he hasn't flatly ruled dealing with NZ First yet.

Probably just letting David Seymour know he has options...

Well NZF will hold national to account but was also critical on luxons policy on relying on property sales to foreign buyers to fund their tax cuts.
Winston may be able to offer more alternatives to the table too.
It won't be all bad, and luxon was highly respectful to the other parties which is rare to see among politicians.

If NZF has any real role in the government at all. And that is not assured despite the results. That said, it was good to see the old bastard still has it!

It's a huge responsibility to be running this country, so wish Luxon all the best, it's not going to be an easy job.
I'm not panicking too much about the possibility of NZF involved in the next government, Winston has pretty much more experience as a politician than anyone else presently in parliament.
If I'm not mistaken, he probably is the longest serving MP we have got?
I wouldn't be surprised as was discussed about him being given the role of speaker in the house.

I'd prefer the simplicity of just National and Act, but if they do need NZF that at least brings experience and more common sense to the table.

I dunno about the Speaker role though. Isn't that meant to be impartial? I can't see Peters doing well at that. But you never know. He's a competent debater and can present a case opposite to what he believes/intends. So maybe sitting in the middle is a good place for him.

For some unfathomable reason NZ has elected a party led by a wealthy evangelical fundamentalist christian. If nothing else, it should prove interesting, if extremely difficult for those on low incomes.
And while it was good to see Winnie pop up yet again after his customary almost three year snooze, I sincerely hope he's not needed.

All 3 of the parties have some things in common, so hopefully all of them can find some common ground and not let personal ego get in the way.
Luxon may want Winston if ACT try and push some rather far right policys.
Is going to be an interesting 3 years for sure.

Winston likes the sound of his own voice far too much to be a good Speaker.

From Scoop: National Leader Christopher Luxon who since the start of 2021 has claimed around $90,000 to live in his own house in Wellington. Christopher Luxon also bought a house in Botany and converted it into an electorate office for which he receives rent from Parliament. Will the Act Party crack down on this type of beneficiary/bludger?

I shouldn't think so - they specialise in poor bashing & the new leader just doesn't fit the profile.

It would be good if we could prevent all politicians from doing likewise though; they get plenty of perks & privileges as it is.

There was definitely talk of preventing it, not sure if anything came of it. It would be a gesture of goodwill, surely, on the part of the new govt if it was to end all these dodgy sneaky little schemes whereby politicians manage to extract more than they should from voters.

Especially since the new leader is a 'man of god' who surely wouldn't do anything even slightly sinful....??

It seems a few skeletons may see the light of day now that National are in power. Apparently that has triggered the ability to request certain information through the OIA system, such as the Uffindel report. Luxon's not going to be a happy camper if his entourage's misbehavings start becoming publicly aired.

I see Greg Fleming got in as well. There's another one with dodgy beliefs.

Aren't dodgy beliefs a sine qua non of a parliamentary candidate's CV ?

The new leader may have to consult with that paragon of virtue called McBishop.

I hadn't realised that. Interesting times ahead then.... Rolleyes

I know I shouldn't laugh. But there has to be some fun in things somewhere, & that was such a lovely mental image... Big Grin
