Gaza war, Muslim leaders view
#1
This is interesting because some of these countries have quite different views on Israel & America, but they're all very concerned at what's happening  now.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-67417570

Hypocrisy, double standards and a failure to understand the region. These are the charges being levelled at the West, primarily the US, by leaders of 57 Arab and Muslim countries who convened at the weekend in the Saudi capital Riyadh.

"How is it, foreign ministers said to me, that the West slams Russia for killing civilians in Ukraine, yet, in their words, it "gives a green light to Israel to do the same in Gaza"?
In the luxurious surroundings of Riyadh's Ritz-Carlton hotel, amid giant floral bouquets and glittering chandeliers, and a world away from the shattered landscape of Gaza, princes, presidents and prime ministers met for the Joint Arab Islamic Extraordinary Summit.

Blame for the war and the destruction of lives and property was heaped unilaterally on Israel and its supporters. No-one criticised Hamas for its 7 October raid into southern Israel that killed 1,200 people and saw some 240 taken hostage, triggering the massive military retaliation. Israel, said the secretary general of the Arab League, had committed criminal acts.

"We warn of the disastrous repercussions of the retaliatory aggression by Israel against the Gaza Strip, which amounts to a war crime," said the final communique. "We warn of the real danger of the expansion of the war as a result of Israel's refusal to stop its aggression and of the inability of the [UN] Security Council to enforce international law to end this aggression."

Few people I spoke to at the summit expected Israel to take much notice. Instead, it was clear that this summit and its intended message of unity was aimed at Israel's biggest backer - the United States. Leaders want the Biden administration and the West in general to exert sufficient pressure on Israel to stop the war altogether.

But what they could not agree on was how to achieve that. The summit pulled together some strange bedfellows - an indication of just how worried the region is at events in Gaza spiralling beyond their control."

Who cares what these Muslim leaders say? In the end this isn't about land. Hamas want only one thing and it certainly isn't peace.

It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche

He's absolutely right - & interestingly, he's a very orthodox jew, I think its the Hasidic jewish men who have the sidelocks & they tend to be fairly conservative. Perhaps if he's typical of current opinion even among the orthodox jews then there might be some faint hope of change for the better.

Yes that's more like what you would expect from some of the oldest groups of people in the world who have been civilized for that length of time and have actually grown up instead of down.

Chicago city council holds a meeting to vote on “resolution in solidarity with Israel,” and one of the residents gave one of the most eloquent summary of the genocide I’ve heard yet

That sums it up pretty well (apart from the mention of Buddhism) in that the methods are very similar to those used by the Nazis in the Warsaw ghetto against the Jewish people they'd confined to the ghetto during the holocaust.

Imo both sides should be condemned for their actions, both currently & in the more recent past. And preferably all those in power & responsible for the Hamas attack which sparked this war, & those in the Israeli govt responsible for the Israeli actions in response to the attack, should be removed immediately from their positions & possibly face action for war crimes.
Until there's a ceasefire very little progress can be made.

His comment seems very apt in that not all members of a religious group can be regarded by the actions of a few.

Do all Catholics molest boys just because a few perverted priests do so? All Muslims aren't terrorists because a few radicals use their religion as an excuse for heinous acts. All Jews can't be judged by the cruel actions of the IDF such as this incident, but when many such actions occur is it any wonder that sooner or later the more militant factions of the Palestinian population retaliate?

Where Israel really surprised when Hamas finally decided to hit back? Israel seems to have now lost the support of their population in their bully boy genocidal actions. And instability in the Middle East has a bad habit of negatively effecting the world economy by way of oil prices, which of course can be of benefit the major petro states in that region. A prompt peaceful outcome can't come soon enough.

Yeah, when Israel does things like this & worse, then their idiot govt must have known very well that it was just a matter of time until there was a reaction.

Israeli troops have now killed three escaping Israeli hostages.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/israel-ham...st%20Hamas.

"Israel's account of how the hostages died also raised questions about the conduct of Israeli ground troops. Palestinians on several occasions have reported that Israeli soldiers opened fire as civilians tried to flee to safety.
Hamas has claimed other hostages were previously killed by Israeli fire or airstrikes, without presenting evidence.
An Israeli military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to brief reporters in line with military regulations, said it was likely that the hostages had been abandoned by their militant captors or had escaped.
The soldiers' behaviour was "against our rules of engagement," the official said, and was being investigated at the highest level.
The hostages did everything they could to signal they weren't a threat, "but this shooting was done during fighting and under pressure," Herzi Halevi, chief of the military's general staff, said in a statement later Saturday.

The hostages' plight has dominated public discourse in Israel. Speaking at a Saturday night rally in Tel Aviv, Rubi Chen, father of 19-year-old hostage Itay Chen, criticized the government for believing hostages could be retrieved through military pressure.
"Put the the best offer on the table to get the hostages home alive," he said. "We don't want them back in bags."
Jonathan Dekel-Chen, whose son Segui is being held by Hamas, called the accidental hostage killings a "tragedy on tragedy," and and echoed calls for a speedy and diplomatic resolution."

Which is relevant how exactly?

This isn't about those idiots who lead Hamas, nor the idiots who lead Israel's govt; its about those who are daily being killed & injured by the idiocy of war, waged by idiot boys.
