Amazing end of year concert by St Andrews College students in ChCh

When I think of the rubbish modern "pop" music these days. it is great to see young people playing tricky guitar solos.

That was a brilliant effort. One of the best covers of that classic I've heard, though I am partial to Zappa's version.

There's a school of thought that this is better than the original.

Hmmm....but it is very good.

I'm led to believe from people who know what they're taliing about (not me) that the gee-tar solo is actually very easy. Just because it's awesome doesn't by default make it difficult to play.

Nope the best version of all time is this one which sat in a bottom drawer of Jimmy Page's dressing table for years before he found it and all the other songs and they released the album, which is them on tour in America in the early days of their career and partly why it was forgotten about for a while because it was recorded off the sound desk and was not the best quality but the playing etc is excellent and full of verve etc. Other people also love this version see the comments below the song player.

Led Zeppelin - How The West Was Won - Stairway To Heaven

It was one of the easy one to learn when I was learning guitar .
EVH etc , that was well beyond my skill level

Do we acknowledge the song (Stairway) was probhably stolen from another band.
Led Zep had a history of doing that , sometimes very obvious they didnt write a song but wouldnt credit those who did

The Heart version is still my favourite .
Im well & truley tired of the Led Zep version :-)

That's why I posted this older version because it is so much better than the one we all know.

It's like Snoopy's Christmas.

Love it but only twice a year.

One of the things I learned being a creative, was that if you make something good, some one less accomplished will steal it. The best way to deal with that kind of angst is to realise you made something worth stealing, so let it go without trying to own it. Granted, when artistic creativity becomes wealth creation then it gets complicated, but the fact remains, if we stopped trying to own beautiful things, maybe more of us would get the pleasure of both making and living with them.

And we'd all be better off.

pretty sure that one has been to court and Led Zep won...  Listening to them both I could say there are minor similarities in musical form, but thats about it...

Assuming this is the one you mean...
