Tesla’s recall of 2 million cars relies on a fix that may not even work

A bit worrying if you have a Tesla Vehicle:

It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche

The online (over the air) update which is what the recall amounts to will do as it is meant but whether it then brings the 'Autopilot' autonomous driving functionality into US legal compliance is what's at question.

From what I'm hearing from relatives who work in the auto design environment the biggest challenge to this technology is in terms of regulatory compliance and this case is proof positive of that.

They have to add a night vision camera to monitor the drivers eyes to be certain they are paying attention to the road, not just a software update.

I thought they said it was just going to be a software update, but a recall wouldnt really be necessary for that, because they typically roll them out automatically dont they?
Makes more sense if an extra camera has to be added i guess.
