US is on the brink of Civil war
#1
Not much reported here, but a friend of mine is heading over to Texas next week, told me he is concerned about going over there, national guard has been called in.
Looks like Texas has been ordered by the white house to open the borders and remove the razor wire.
They are refusing to comply and 28 other states are supporting Texas.

That would be democracy in action CT... In the US they can get away with it, no civil war pending.
This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.

The biggest threat of civil unrest in the US will be if Trump is reelected and then goes ahead with the hair brained schemes he has been ranting about. The US is already a very polarised society and the way everything from COVID control measures to EVs is spun on a political basis. How can a country be so retrospective and stubborn to change and adaptation? Trump just capitalises on citizen's insecurities and bigotry.

Civilisations seem to rise to a point and then collapse. Empires have cycles. Might be time the US followed Europe's example and became many nations.

Europe has always been many nations.  Even when ruled by the Romans.

That might eventually even work well, women could avoid the more anti women ones more easily, racists could all congregate in one or two of the more ignorant ones & live in blissful ignorance.

The getting there though, could be awful.

As they say patriotism is the last refuge of scoundrels, and America has plenty of them of all nationalities and creeds.

A dogs breakfast.

I tend to agree - its a horrible thing to compare America from a few decades ago with the America we're seeing now; the lack of education & level of understanding is frightening.

I'm extremely glad my ancestors came here & not there.

If people who look so similar can violently fight to the death for thousands of years because of different delusions/interpretations, purportedly over different versions of god when really they are and have been squabbling over land ownership (ie Israelis and Palestinians); what hope is there for really diverse warlike nationalities from all over the world to ever see eye to eye and live together harmoniously as is the situation in the USA?

Indeed - we see ourselves as superior to all other species, but we're the only species which consistently makes differences between ourselves & every so often sends out its children to kill other peoples children because of those differences. For thousands of years we've repeated that pattern, over & over while learning apparently nothing from it.

And we see ourselves as an intelligent species....

The reason Americans live harmoniously, is they are funded by ensuring other people do not. Their entire economy depends on the profits of promoting wars among other people, and when those people turn and retaliate they bring down hell on their heads.

And why our government think it a good idea to support such murderous idiocy I will never understand.

That's one of many such articles.

It is a huge concern!
Why do they want to flood their borders with illegal immigrants and criminals?
Easy way for the left to get more voters isint it?
They are destroying that country and blows me away that people think that sort of thing is ok.

Borders are inaginary boundaries drawn up by human beings to prevent other human beings from enjoying the same benefits they do. So much for America singing 'Give me your tired, your poor Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free The wretched refuse of your teeming shore Send these the homeless tempest-tost to me… '

Land of the free, nope. Land of the privileged few who exploit the rest.

And who have every intention of keeping things that way. And of course its very convenient for them to foster the idea of the 'extreme left' who want to wreck everything. People like that are never keen on sharing, or the well being of others. Dodgy

If we could just all behave like reasonable people rather than ovegrown toddlers, we might do better. Rolleyes

Thing is though that refugees are doing exactly what we'd do if we found ourselves in their circumstances. You don't grab your kids & run without extremely good reason.

Refugee, Warsan Sire

"No one leaves home unless
home is the mouth of a shark
you only run for the border
when you see the whole city running as well

your neighbours running faster than you
breath bloody in their throats
the boy you went to school with
who kissed you dizzy behind the old tin factory
is holding a gun bigger than his body
you only leave home
when home won’t let you stay.

no one leaves home unless home chases you
fire under feet
hot blood in your belly
it’s not something you ever thought of doing
until the blade burnt threats into
your neck
and even then you carried the anthem under
your breath
only tearing up your passport in an airport toilets
sobbing as each mouthful of paper
made it clear that you would not be going back.

you have to understand,
that no one would put their children in a boat
unless the sea is safer than the land
no one burns their palms
under trains
beneath carriages
no one spends days and nights in the stomach of a truck
feeding on newspaper unless the miles travelled
means something more than journey.
no one crawls under fences
wants to be beaten
wants to be pitied
no one chooses refugee camps
or strip searches where your
body is left aching
or prison,
because prison is safer
than a city of fire
and one prison guard
in the night
is better than a truckload
of men who look like your father

no one could take it
no one could stomach it
no one's skin would be tough enough

the
go home blacks
refugees
dirty immigrants
asylum seekers
sucking our country dry
ni**ers with their hands out
they smell strange
savage
messed up their country and now they want
to mess ours up
how do the words
the dirty looks
roll off your backs
maybe it's because the blow is softer
than a limb torn off
or the words are more tender
than fourteen men between
your legs
or the insults are easier
to swallow
than rubble
than bone
than your child body
in pieces.
i want to go home,
but home is the mouth of a shark
home is the barrel of the gun
and no one would leave home
unless home chased you to the shore
unless home told you
to quicken your legs
leave your clothes behind
crawl through the desert
wade through the oceans
drown
save
be hungry
beg
forget pride
your survival is more important
no one leaves home unless home is a sweaty voice in your ear
saying-
leave,
run away from me now
i dont know what i’ve become
but i know that anywhere
is safer than here."

That's all very well and said, but how does that help the US?
All these illegal immigrants are getting welfare packages at the expense of the rest of the population.
Their own people are in desperate need of welfare not to mention many other social issues the country faces.
I'm afraid the US is beyond repair. Trump won't be enough to fix it either, it's a real mess over there.
I've got a friend who has left the US and come here to get away from the dramas over there. He has applied for NZ residency and he tells me the only solution to fix that country is to nuke it and start over. That's pretty sad.

Trump could well be the catalyst to a significant social upheaval and change in the US, but the solution to it, he is not.  The subsequent rebuilding will need much calmer and clearer minds...

Razor wire isn't a health check. Men with whips on horseback is not a security check.

Joe, our parents or grandparents were immigrants in search of a better life for their children. Now we have that better life is it a moral decision to close the gates against others seeking the same thing? Many of them injured or impoverished by the very nations they seek to join.

That's the problem with empires, they exploit many many people in order to enrich the few. There actually is no wealth that hasn't caused immense harm in its generation. We have to learn a better way.

I have friends too who applied to come here and were turned down. They have immigrated elsewhere.

They weren't wealthy enough, or desperate enough to come here, it seems, but fortunately they had the resources to start well in other places.

Even our immigration policies need work.
