Power steering pump leak. 1999 Familia
#1
Hi
My 1999 Familia has a leak which only leaked while the engine was running and then it developed a noise. A mechanic came out and diagnosed it as the power steering pump, and having leaked out all the fluid was why it was noisy. It makes sense. He said we would need to find a second hand pump to fix it then I never heard from him again.

Do you think I really need to replace the pump? It probably just needs a gasket or gasket goo right?

Usually it's a hose, not so often a pump. You can strip the pump and rebuild, but you might have problems getting parts for one that old. Send it away to a specialist for repair, that's the best option. But fitting a 2nd hand pump would be the cheapest option, but again, finding one for a 1999 car will be the issue.
