The leader of the free world is having its democracy privatised. We need to learn from that example. The weasels are breeding, but we're the ones who get screwed.

They appear to be crazed by greed; there's nothing in the least democratic in what they want, whish apparently is to return the world to feudal times, where only those wealthy enough can afford educati0on & medical care, & fully participate in society.

If that isn't evil then I'm damned if I know what is.

And yes, we should learn from what's happening in America, especially the recent murder of a health insurance boss due to their unfair health system.

But Seymour wants us to all opt out of the public health system & instead have $6000 annual payments to use for private insurance instead. He seems determined to ignore that recent murder - perhaps because it just doesn't fit with his views.

Seymour's speechwriter/s pulled out an astonishing spin when he described his favoured sector of society, "Changemakers". They generously "save up and buy a home that they maintain for someone else to live in." Oh so that's why they do it. Nothing to do with income from rent and capital gains.

But of course not - they do it out of the goodness of their hearts...or something. Rolleyes Dodgy

Couldn't possibly be greed..

Privatisation you say?

I dunno people. Which would you rather be - filthy rich with all the freedom that brings, or a state house tenant with all the advantages of social support?

It's going to take more than one man one vote to turn that around.

That was a mighty list of privatisation failures in there...  and when think of all the money spent on bailouts down the track, it must tend to negate the immediate benefit from privatising an SOE.
This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.

The words 'miserable, evil, greed crazed b'stards' come to mind.

They have to become a one term govt, certainly they're deserving of it.

Also the increased costs borne by the public in many cases. Examples being electricity pricing, bank duopolies, rail transport, airfares, etc.

The possible silver lining in this situation is Winston's extreme disagreement regarding privatisation ideology. There are already cracks starting to show between the coalition partners and with the DPM position transferring in May (and the budget due then) it makes for a prime opportunity for Winston to break the coalition as his historic legacy to NZ politics.

I really dislike the racism that is creeping into our Parliament. Really dislike it.
#13
The racism has always been there among those particular MPs, but they seem to be emboldened by what's happening in America.  Particularly Jones, who is pointedly linking himself to Trump.  And Peters is even viler than usual this year.
#14
Not sure what is is but there's just something wrong about Shane Jones, something really repellant.

I can't see this govt lasting the distance; Winston must be due to throw a massive tantrum surely...

I agree, Jones is someone you'd cross the street to avoid. He's creepy, self-deluded and inauthentic, obviously has a good brain in his head but chooses to use his intelligence to bully and demean practically everyone except Peters. Some kind of personality disorder or sociopathy perhaps.

I think people probably need some kind of psychopathology to even be an MP. It is one of the things about democracy that weakens it. We need a way to select people who don't want to be in that job, but who would be very good at it. Instead we elect volunteers with agendas.

And look who we get.

Many times I've heard comments to people with the right qualities to be a great PM but invariably the response is along the lines of 'not on your life'. It does make you realise how much we lucked out having Jacinda in the top spot for as long as we did.

Yes, exactly Olive - & yay, I'm not going doolally after all, it isn't just me! Rolleyes Big Grin

As horrible as that sounds you could well be right; certainly it seems that anyone - or most, anyway - of those wanting to be politicians are somehow lacking basic humanity, commonsense, empathy etc. etc.
