Possum yarn is wonderful Mica, light to work and deliciously warm to wear. The fibres are hollow like deer hair and that's how they insulate. It is a lovely fur too, I have stapled many skins to drying boards as a young married paying down the mortgage!
Funny thing, but in those storage bins I unearthed my most expensive ever garment purchase, a chocolate brown glove leather Russian style coat with huge possum fur collar, cuffs, and two bands of it at the just below knee hem. I bought it over a month from Spring sale at Sterns in Queen Street when I was working in the city, and had to wait through the summer till I could show it off. Which gave me time to find and pay off a pair of matching knee length high heeled boots. Boy I loved that outfit, I work it to death! I was wearing it when I met my husband to be and cannot let it go for that reason.
But oh, it is such a small waisted coat...
Still, I have decided to take it apart and use the leather to cover a small mid century cantilever chair I have, and use the possum to make a cushion to put on it. If Ms CoCo decides to sit on it she will disappear into the matching softness. The lining will find another life too I suspect, and all'n all I get to keep the coat even though I will never wear it again.
Romance never dies, eh?
