And now in Wellington, Tauranga/Mt Maunganui. They can no longer stop it, it is coming and all they did was delay it by 18 months.

Bollocks - they could stop it by putting the whole country into another four week lockdown...  and "all they did in the last 18 months" was get a large chunk of the population vaccinated

Stay home and stay safe everybody...

It was inevitable that it was going to travel down and across the country.

Have the vaccine, to give yourself the best chance of not getting the virus, or at least, you won't be as sick, as you would if you hadn't had the vaxx's.

Yeah because 12 weeks of lockdown in Auckland certainly stamped it out - oh wait....

What about all the people who will travel to Auckland? Will they get contaminated?

Those 18 months have given us the advantages of seeing how successful (or not) other countries' COVID control measures have been so we can plan accordingly and the opportunity for scientists to provide us with an at least semi effective vaccine. Those advantages are not to be sneezed at and you make use of them, or not, at your peril.

Like everything to do with this virus nothing is certain but at least the risk of infection and subsequent serious harm is mitigated if you are exposed to the virus, and the chances of this occurring are greater if you are in an area with widespread infected individuals, which is likely to be anywhere in NZ within the next few months.

eh ?  the risk of infection is not 'mitigated if you are exposed to the virus'.  It's only mitigated if you have been vaccinated.

Hahah luck with that.  Unfortunately theres a lot of entitled people who just think the rules weren't supposed to apply to them.

And by doing so, get most of the country vaccinated and save a LOT of lives and an overwhelmed healthcare system.

Elimination was never going to be a forever strategy.

You might be right. All those vaccinated in group 3 (elderly and vulnerable) whose vaccination wanes faster. If 2nd dose was towards end of July, they will only be at 47% protection against infection, just in time for xmas visits from Auckland. They can't get a booster until end Jan. Yet there's no advice as to whether those people need to stay at home or add to a possible infection pool.

How do you think the existing Christchurch cases got it?

Idiots are not limited to Auckland it seems.

We bought the rest of the country some time. No need to thank us, just get your jabs, mask up, social distance, and avoid contact with the vulnerable and the common sense challenged.

With luck you'll just get a light dose of the thing.

christchurch is our sodom and gomorrah (sp)

I don't know that that would solve the problem though magoo, those Christchurch people are pretty tough. They seem to take a pretty good smiting and just keep on keeping on, I doubt razzing them will have much effect beyond making them a bit irritated, and then we might get a bit of a pasting next time we send a team south...

So no, best play nicely with the Mainlanders I reckon.
