I went through Otara a while ago, used to know it well back in the '70's. I was like - WTF !!! I'm lost ! Who put all these bloody big trees everywhere ? I guess they were little shrubs when I was in my teens and 20's, and I couldn't navigate by line of sight like I used to.

Yup
But if what I recall of the ICAO standard atmosphere is correct the world's average sea level temperature is 15 deg C. Given it is close to the coldest bit of the year here, we are doing OK, so no real need for firewood mass harvesting here. Besides, firewood doesn't burn terribly well in the heat pump.
