I stopped TV News some years ago - best thing ever. Unfortunately I still go to online News sites. I do pick and choose, stay away from opinion articles...but I still need to know what's going on...sad.

Smart people  do stupid things.

Who would have thought that the Minister of Justice would drink and drive, crash their car, flee the scene and then resist being arrested?

Of the Minister for ACC would be caught DIC?

Or the Minister of Transport try ro bypass security?

Or the Minister of Health breach lockdown instructions?

It now appears that there were 2 separate instances for goods totalling $25000.

Power corrupting? Or rather - destroying?

It is safer to be ordinary.

An interesting aspect of this is that the shop did not want this made public, & presumably, neither did the MP...so how did the Media get hold of the story? And will they tell us?

Yes, no one is talking, and don't seem too concerned...but the media is sure winding it up. Golriz not fronting up is not going well for her. Being on holiday is no excuse - Say Something !

If Golriz has dirt on Scotties it's in their interest to keep things quiet and in the longer term potentially strengthens Golriz's case if she does the same. She is a lawyer so will be well aware of how best to play her hand. The media are reactionary numpties and are just maximising clickbait with absolutely nothing solid to provide so far.

RE: Golriz Gahraman allegedly attempted shoplifting - Zurdo - 13-01-2024

Yeah, the normal response is Maggie Barry - all denial despite what police and airline are saying. Everyone saying nothing is a bit more interesting. She is certainly not stupid, and not leaping to her own defense an unusual tactic.

Which is apparently infuriating the media...oh dear what a shame, never mind. Rolleyes Big Grin Big Grin

Now a 3rd allegation of shoplifting - this time in Wellington.

Indeed the rumour mill (NZ Herald) is working overtime currently. About time something substantiated came to light to put some substance to the circulating stories.

Police have admitted they have security footage forwarded to them in October by the Wellington store - obviously when the second complaint came in from the Auckland store the police have upped their investigation .Hope she gets the help she obviously needs unlike Kiri whose problem got swept under the carpet for political reasons

This one has a pic.  Things not looking to good for her.

So there's a photo of Golriz in the Cre8iveworx store. What does that prove?

RE: Golriz Gahraman allegedly attempted shoplifting - king1 - 15-01-2024

the lack of any kind of denial is just a bit disconcerting, but those photos show nothing incriminating, just someone in a store, looking around, all very suspicious...

RE: Golriz Gahraman allegedly attempted shoplifting - SueDonim - 15-01-2024

What happened to "innocent until proven guilty"? The media, and apparently social media if this is anything to go by, have crucified her and she hasn't even been charged with anything yet. If she is guilty it will be dealt with. If she isn't guilty, it would have been best if no-one knew that she had been accused.

On the other hand, what is a left-leaning greenie doing shopping in stores like that anyway? I have no problem with the use of high-end stores by people who don't mind wasting their money when they can afford it, but those voted in to public office should probably walk their talk.

We are only seeing a still shot of her being in the store not the entire footage from the security camera which has been sent to the police

Well the pic itself proves nothing however it s part of a video which has been sent to police with a complaint about shoplifting.

BTW you calling me Einstein is clearly a derogatory term - apply your own rules

I agree that we need to wait until the investigation is done - however the silence on the matter is just making it worse.   If she is charged and convicted then she needs to go.

I would add that if she uses MS as an excuse, as some MS sufferers can have issues with impulse control or cognitive reasoning, then this also means she should step down as an MP.

Don't necessarily agree with that, denying people the right to represent based on a mental health or physical disability seems like a slippery (and non-inclusive) slope.  Even a conviction doesn't necessarily exclude you from representing the people in NZ, I believe only if it's a jail term of two years or more...

Yep, & it would be a reason rather than an 'excuse' if it was used.

Just looked & while MS can cause problems & side effects of various sorts it doesn't specify shoplifting, obviously.

Its a very odd situation & not made easier by the media constantly drawing attention to it but with little or no detail simply because its the thin season for news, while having to also be cautious they don't defame her in case of legal repercussions.
