Surely they can't really be that ignorant; they must know very well that the Pope's not in any even very,very slightly 'Marxist.' 

 What they mean but won't say, is that he doesn't agree with their rigid,damaging far right BS....surely, they cannot be that stupid & ill informed.

US politics may have been influential in the choice of Pope but not in the way you're implying IMO. The Catholic church has far greater sway than the White House and I suspect the world is going to now witness a power play in that respect.
