We're at the end of the year's crop. More than half are in the freezer (scoop out, microwave for a a couple of minutes and freeze - then make crumble and cake all the rest of the year. The crumble is with sweet apples and needs no further sweetening.

Our number 3 tree that was supposed to be late season 'Mammoth" has been sub-standard since we planted it and was clearly mis-labelled. The fruit aren't great and have also finished already so we'll replace it. Apollo is great and Unique has recovered well from being blown over and chopped off after a storm a few years ago and is earning its place again. Long gone are the years that I used to note every roadside hedge in the area and note which ones were being left to rot before weekly raids. We now have good crops of huge fruit of our own, with a purpose grown mondo bed for them to fall on. Clean and soft to reduce bruising.

As advised above, they are not ripe until they fall. And pruning comes as soon as they finish fruiting so they can flower on the new year's growth for next season.
