The rest of the world will be running into all sorts of problems, they won't be exporting once the rot really sets in, New Zealand is the least worst option, why do you think all the Billionaires are setting up shop here.

AS for NZ and basic industries this is because of poor planning on behalf of successive governments of the past. Not setting up Fortress NZ will be just like not electrifying the main trunk line and diversify, diversify, diversify, but it's all too late now.
