i'm not seeing a link to
Quote:" all NZ leads the world in is murdering ... babies"

far as I can see US holds that record, but the data is all pretty old and sketchy... Yes we have far more than anyone would be comfortable with (ie greater than zero no doubt), but i'm not seeing world leading...

There's no point in arguing with idiots and head in the sand types - they don't care. And as for "cutting the farmers some slack" - that's what we've been doing for the last few decades, and they roll on as before. In the foreseeable future, quite a number of those alive now will bear the consequences of our inaction. What excuses will farmers have when the emergency really bites? What special pleading for their privileged position?
I do have other cameras!

At least they'll eat...

will it just be a flat charge per cow & per ton of fertiliser bought growers use a lot of fertiliser as vegetables need very rich soils so expect hefty increased costs to be passed to the consumer who are already bitching a thigher costs Iits really just socialists attack on the farmers &growers who are the backbone of NZ disguised as an emissions target & the only country to hit food production . . Funny thing its was a farmer by name of Ardern who drove his tractor up parliament steps when last labour government tried to introduce the fart tax , it was soon dropped . But we wont talk about all the new coal fired power stations now being built in China & Europe in nresponse to the cutting of gas supplys

We can talk about it as much as you like but we can only control things that are in our control.  Just because China doesn't adhere to the same morals and standards that we do certainly shouldn't be justification for us to do whatever we want...

Besides, my understanding is that China is getting more gas from Russia, not less (up 65% this year apparently).  Presumably Russia are having a bit of a fire sale on gas since no-one else wants it...

and not to contradict you again, but from what I can gather europe is not building any more coal fired plants either.  They are putting a few of the unused ones back on standby in case needed over the winter

Was it that big paddle that gave it away? Or just the general uninformed bollocks of it?

China is building huge alternative power sources too and is well ahead in their climate change planning. Like most nations it is doing good things along with the other kind...

China's green cities - they do look interesting, & I think they may well be the way of the future. If we have one.

This article says it all very well...
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/john-macdo...D5UPO5T3E/

And this, I already have a friend who sold his farm because it was uneconomic to upgrade to new regulations.
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/northern-advo...2OV64HLSM/

All from a country that contributes 0.17% of global greenhouse gases, most of our emissions are carbon neutral, methane turns back to CO2 within 12 years and plants absorb back.
Farmers dont get to claim carbon credits from their pasture and for some stupid reason, NZ is not counting a great deal of our native bush in the south towards our carbon credits.

the effects are very real, someone has to start somewhere. NZ did many years ago with the Climate Change Response Act 2002, farmers have been on notice since then... There is no excuse for them not to be prepared for this...

maybe our role is to show the bigger polluter nations how it can be done without impacting on industries significantly?

I think most farmers know very well that change is needed; some have had the sense & foresight to make changes.

And if other countries see fit to follow our example, then that wouldn't be a bad thing.

Also worth noting that NZ's and China's CO2 emissions are very similar on a per capita basis. China is the world's manufacturing leader but for us the emissions are agriculture weighted. https://www.worldometers.info/co2-emissi...er-capita/

I think I would rather pay higher prices knowing it was about climate change mitigation, than lining the pockets of some anonymous middlemen...

If food becomes too expensive to eat, it will be a good way to go on a diet. Cool Cool
Despite the high cost of living it remains popular

I don't think those in Somalia would see things your way.

Did you know that the paris agreement forbids any measures to tackle climate change that affect food production?
NZ will be in breach of this.

Our groundswell protest had great support from the public with many passers by tooting their horns for us.
