Chrome externsions
#1
with the upcoming removal of manifest V2 extensions,  I now have a list of 20 or so extensions under the heading

Quote:These extensions may soon no longer be supported - Remove or replace them with similar extensions from the Chrome Web Store

I'm thinking not much point in staying with Chrome now - when I check for alternatives via the provided link all the really useful ones like cookie/notice blockers, autoplay stoppers etc, just list generic extensions that aren't really alternatives at all...

Ublock has a lite version available but it looks like it's been neutered, feature wise

What to do? Some of them I won't miss but there are a few in the can't really live without category...

Firefox is looking rather appealing now...
This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.

I was thinking about this too, especially when it comes to uBlock origin, I bet i will get a ton of calls with people complaining about ads popping up.
Ive been looking at browser alternatives, I do still use firefox, but Brave looks a good alternative to Chrome im thinking.
Might be a good boost for Firefox's market share.
Ublock is the main addon i install on Chrome, the only other option is to use the adblock DNS if the router supports changing it.

I actually run an instance of Adguard Home on a VM, its a dns based block similar to pihole. Mainly for/due to the damned Samsung TV and its ads.

Might need to start using that...

if you like experimenting, give Arc Browser a Go, been using it for  a few months now, its a bit of a learning curve getting used to how it works, its different to other browsers.  Its got a couple of inbuilt adblockers by default, just installed Ad guard MV3 (beta)

Arc Browser https://arc.net/

In the Picture IDM is not included thats a downloader I use as well. Smile

If you do, it may pay to take a gander at the Instructions ( yes I know LOL) Actually very helpful as to how it works, as I mentioned, takes a little bit getting used to, as its not like other mainline browsers  Big Grin

Ive messed around with it, the main difference I find is that with an extension such as ublock origin, the page displays more normall as if the ads were never there, whereas using the adguard DNS, there is a bunch of white spaces to scroll through where the ads are supposed to be.
This is more of an issue with mobile devices i find, half the page is white.
Also sponsored links dont open, not really a surprise here, but a minor inconvenience at times when you have to scroll further down to find the direct link.

Was watching this here last night, quite an eye opener on whats going on currently.

Yeah they have been funding mozilla for quite some time now, might end up being their saviour.
Firefox marketshare dropped down to vitrualy nothing with the advent of Chrome, funny how Google have gotten away with this for so long, given they are essentially doing the same thing Microsoft got reprimanded for 25 years ago.
