You can never have enough...
(20-01-2025, 07:29 AM)kiwimade64 Wrote: Dahlias are such a good 'buy' and a really useful plant for the garden.  Great picking and they help suppress the weeds.  We saw some lovely dahlia displays in Whakatane planted by the council.  My sister-in-law said we would help divide them lol.  I dug our jasmine out last season as I could no longer cope with the hayfever.  And it was growing into the tree we wanted taken out, so it was a good opportunity to do both at the same(ish) time.

My heart's racing so in I've come to sit for a while.  I did manage to do a bit more than I thought so am happy.

A trick my cardiologist taught me Kiwimade is to inhale then strain like having a hard poo.. It slows your heart down again.

It works. but dont do it too long or you can black out.  Which is why so many people die sitting on the toilet.

Sounds crazy but it does work..

Also make a note of when its happening, how long it goes for and what you are doing when it happens. It really helps the cardiologist.

I know that trick, popeye Smile My sister-in-law showed it to me at the birthday lunch we went to the other day. And yes, crazy as it sounds, it does work. And if I record exactly what I was doing when my heart starts racing, I'll get a good ticking off by the cardiologist. Digging the garden is a no-no... sigh... I only dug a couple of paspalums out Tongue

Time for lunch shortly then I'll do a bit more stitching. Not overly happy with the colour I chose, but oh well, it will do the trick for now.

morning ladies Smile This morning we had the most stunning sunrise with the black clouds and the golds and pinks just around the edges. It looked amazing.

Our sprinkler died Sad Mind you it was well over 10 years old, and I'm surprised it lasted so long. It's become very brittle and no longer oscillates. It has only oscillated half way for years and now it won't move at all. That Gardenia brand is very good (the orange one).

Funny you should mention having all those cables and remotes, popeye. We also had a draw full of them. Finally got rid of them a few weeks ago. They seem to accumulate over time as you buy a new device.

If it's going to rain today, then I'm going to sort out the shelf full of old National Geographics. I've been slowly donating them to schools and the like, but these can go to the various op shops around town along with a bag of NZ Gardener magazines my sister-in-law thought we would like. Magazines do the rounds here lol. We need the shelf space for a big bag of books MrK's brother-in-law has finished and passed onto us. Big Grin

Morning everyone

Overcast but not raining as yet.

There was an accident just up the road from where I live last night. I heard the helicopter but didn't really think about it. Then a friend phoned to make sure I was ok. So once we finished I phoned David, he lives about the same distance on the other side of it. And found the cleaner at the home on FB cos she is between me and the crash sight. Right in front of the cemetery. A young man on a scooter, versus something. But he has passed.

I hate hearing of young ones just starting out dying. Its incredibly cruel.

Had a nice time at the home but twice they hadn't hooked mums Oxygen on. Once they didn't even put the prongs in her nose and the second time they put them on but didn't turn the machine on. Then just before leaving Dianne rang the Bell several times as Mum needed to go to the toilet. They took 20 minutes to get there. And Dianne told them to use the commode, she had been off her oxygen too much already today.

There is a residents meeting on Friday.. We WILL be there.

Home day today, I think I will paint since I haven't for 3 days.

Might cook a proper meal too, which I haven't been doing lately.. oops

Have a fab day all

Another cloudless sunny day

DS and family came for swim late yesterday afternoon one of the bonuses of living in retirement villagev. We had the pool to ourselves which is the usual  case.  It was refreshing .

DGS and I  decide todayvwoukd be best day to do our train trip to city, visit library, MacD for lunch and a look at more books in Whitcoulls . We have been doing this in school holidays and they are away on holiday next week which is the last week.

I am tired woke up midnight with k9 chasing feline Dodgy still awake at 3am grrr...

Got to phone hairdresser again as I was charged twice for my haircut on Friday they said when I phoned on Friday it was just a hold but it is not.

Enjoy your day

Ahhh buggar, mica. Hate it when that happens.

MrK had his back appointment at the back clinic this morning and it would seem it's his hip. Arthritis maybe and the possibility of needing a hip replacement later on. Some exercises to do and the suggestion we buy an exercycle. We were looking at buying of those anyway.

Popped into Mitre 10 for a new sprinkler and a few other plants just happened to fall into the trolley. Spinach and silverbeet (yummmm) and a basil plant. Stopped for a cup of tea at the cafe Smile and to give MrK a rest. Home to a very muddy Furry One as he was trying to dig under the shed to get to a rabbit.

Must confess two new hips are better than the grinding pain, but they are not as good as the originals, even worn out originals - so it is a real balancing act decisionwise. I do like not having that pain though, even with the restrictions on my mobility.

I have to buy lettuce seedlings, pulled my old ones out this morning, too bitter to eat. And I have a swanky new St Johns alarm unit, and pendant. They do look after us, St Johns. Always a pleasure having a visit from their reps. Almost makes up for the arrival of a bright orange portaloo which is now positioned directly opposite my front door about five steps away. Heavy sigh...

morning ladies Smile Wow, that rain was awesome and it looks like we are going to have more.

A potaloo so close to your home is just wrong, OHH. Doesn't anyone have a brain anymore. The St John's alarm will be awesome, and yes, they are lovely people.

We are a long way off before MrK has a hip op, but now he knows what his problem is, he's less frustrated. He is being referred to a joint specialist.

This morning I'm going to make the most of the wet ground and pull a few weeds. The spot next to the beans needs weeding before I move some salvias there. We're hoping the bees that love the salvias so much will wander over to the beans. Then some stitching later on. I'm not 100% happy with it but then again, I never am lol.

I have put in my next lot of beans and they are climbing already, in a couple of weeks I will stike another lot I think. These are the blue lake runners and they are the tastiest beans I have come across. My tomatoes have been a mixed bag this year with a bit of blossom end rot despite all the measures suggested, but only on the reds. I picked up some yellow tumbler seed on TM and raised six plants, three for me, three to give away. Mine have been outrageously productive and the three I put in a neighbours pots which were then badly neglected have done well despite her laziness. The blackbirds feasted on those, lol. So next year I think I shall repeat those and stay away from the ordinary reds. My heritage plants are flowering now so we shall see what those are like. I'm hoping their genes are stronger than the more highly bred reds I tried.

But my beans are just so troublefree and produce just the regular handfuls I need, so those are a winner. It is time though to be thinking about winter, so I will look out for mini brassicas and greens. I'm tempted to have a go at sprouts but wonder about tempteratures, they do like a bit of a freeze. They did really well in Blenheim, but up here the aphids might be a pain...

Good morning.

Overcast after good rain yesterday. Will still need to water some planters that just missed out under the eaves. Good ground conditions to plant out the beetroot seedlings. The butter beans I  planted a week ago are rocketing and I see flowers forming  Smile

How annoying OHH ... I'd be letting 'someone' know that the loo placement is not on!

A stay at home today after groceries and library yesterday. Weeds and housework are always waiting!

Enjoy the day all.

Morning everyone

Dry this morning.

Must have been a lovely temp overnight cos I slept in. Which is rare for me, and when I woke up I thought it was Saturday lol... Its Painting day, but I suspect we wont get the afternoon cos Mike the singer is in today and they usually have him in the big dining room.

I finished the blue and white flowers last night. Not totally happy with it. But David can decide if he wants it as well as the blue poppies.

I am a wicked woman.

Went hunting this morning & got a Simpsons clock & coffee mug for eldest grandson's (who likes The Simpsons) birthday next month. so far, so good...but then I made the mistake of wandering into Whitcoulls.
In my defence I did stay well away from the books, but found myself in the toys dept, & suddenly I was looking at a box which said in colourful letters, Lava...& in smaller letters - slime.

What small boy could resist (& apparently, also, what great grandmother!) so now the two eldest great grandsons will be getting a lovely box of instant slime.

Their parents are going to kill me.

Well, one of my lunch companions had terrible news - she is no longer able to drink wine because of her meds... So, guess who was able to step up to the need to redistribute her rather nice collection of Marlborough pinot gris? Clinking all the way home I was...

morning ladies Smile Our road is very quiet this morning as there is a detour using those portable traffic lights.

lol Lilith, go you! Slime is the best lol. And the kids will love it - and isn't that what gift giving is all about - what the recipients like Tongue Being a nana is the best Heart But be warned, there is always payback lol

I'll spend another morning (or part of) weeding where the salvias are being moved too. They have almost finished flowering so a cut back will bring on another flush. And I have another lavender to plant out on the roadside and the daily clean and top up of the birdbath.

The Furry One's meds need picking up from the vet, he can come with me as he loves the fuss the vet nurses make of him.
