Avoiding the collateral damage from goings on in the US political sphere is made more difficult with the global interconnectedness of the digital world.

That's worrying. It could possibly cause chaos & perhaps could be used to control what now passes for govt there, even the entire population.  This might be a good time for Americans to head for Canada or Mexico if they're able to. If this gets really nasty then it will be mostly poorer people who'll suffer.
